eerw
Sad...really sad.. don't know if anyone else was a Pantera fan..but two of the former members were shot and killed while playing on stage in Columbus..Dimebag Darrel and Vinnie Paul they were part of a band name Damage Plan and were set to tour nationally.. I remember in my youth hanging out in a bar on the eastside of Fort Worth..when these guys were a great copy band..and hanging in the garage listening to rehearsals.. anyway..just some kids from my youth..that made it big doing something they loved..fun..not my thing all the time..but still.. sometimes people really suck... http://www.nbc4i.com/news/3983630/detail.html
Flexmoney
Holy crap! I saw Panterra here in Columbus back when they were popular...but, not at the Alrosa Villa. Speaking of the Alrosa Villa...Steve Anderson's old band used to play there!
stingerjg
Damn that sucks, Im trying to learn how to play bass and that was one of the bands that i liked (trying) playing their songs. Flex, i wouldn't have pegged you for a Pantera fan.
BigDave
Yeah, I heard that on the drive in to work this morning. Dimebag (not Dimeback) was an amazing guitarist in his genre'. Music lost a great one, for sure.
Sgtsvi
I use to see Pantera when they were the house band at a rock bar in Dallas called the Ritz. This was in 1984, before they hit the big times. I met them on a couple of occasions and they were actually nice guys. I was at a blues club in Dallas a couple of years ago (The bone), when Pantera came in near closing time. The band was ending their session when one of they guys gave the house band $500 dollars to play one more song. They all got up from their table and left when the song was half over. I thought it was a pretty nice gesture to give a little money and support to another local band trying to make it. Dave

I had a buddy that hung with them a lot..and he would drag me to the club after we got off work at 11pm in Fort Worth and drive over... Saw them a few years ago when they played Red Rocks..first time my wife saw them..she was actually impressed..what cool guys they were when we met up them after the show.. Sgtsvi
That was back when the bars had real happy hours. At the Ritz you paid $3 at the door and they gave you a plastic keepsake mug that you could get filled free all night. Right down the street was a bar called the Bellringer. $8 cover and any drink was free until 12 o'clock.

Jeeper
I remember seeing Pantara and Slayer in a tiny little joint in 1991. It was a great concert. Dimebag was a kick ass guitarist.
XRe
I've been following this all morning. I've read a report that Vinnie Paul was shot - but not killed. Where'd you see that he's dead? This is really sad. Dime was one of the most influential metal guitar players of the 90s - he basically spawned a whole new genre of guitar player on his own. Sort of the Eddie Van Halen of speed/thrash/hardcore metal. It's becoming clear that I need to join Bill Hicks' political party - the "People Who Hate People" party..... Kingman
This is a bad day in metal history.

I saw report last night..about 12am to 1am my time..the channel 4 station in Columbus..they backed off a lot of the information that they gave in the first hours.. some of the info was on the damageplan website..which went down this morning and is now back up http://www.damageplan.com/ http://www.pantera.com/
MTrout40
Makes you sick doesn't it?!? I've been a huge pantera fan since the early 90's and still listen to every one of their CD's. I even have a DIME series guitar that was signed by him in dallas. This morning after I heard the news, I cranked up the 5150 and blasted out some pantera riffs...DBD will be missed. And f**k the co**suker that shot him..I'll p*ss on your grave if I see it.
mcoliver
My brother loved Pantera. He used to listen to them in cassette tapes then play them over and over again, while following with his own guitar and learning the tabs by ear. I think this'll make him sad. Steve Moneypenny
Getting where they are now required great talent, commitment and dedication. Sadly that was all taken away in an instant by one moron.... the death penalty is too leinient for people like that.
Steve Anderson
Yeah, I played the Al Rosa a hundred times in the old band... The stage is kinda low and security was non-existent. The back door that the cop came through would have put him 15 feet from stage right...that back door was always unlocked. I heard the shooter was mad at Dimebag for breaking up Pantera... Dead Buff
Yep...he even told people Dimebag/Pantera stole their lyrics from him...total fruitloop... Apparently he was a Marine - got kicked or something, did some time in a mental facility, played with imaginary dogs....a typical example of a moving target....
