2011 finishing question

Hi Guys

I have a new 2011 build being done by Jimmy Vidanes and the 1911 speed shop. It looks fantastic , and was just finished but still in the white. I want a very specific serration on the top and it's going to take some time to get the tooling in to do that .

Would you blue the gun between now and then to prevent any rusting and enable usage ? Eventually i'm going to get the top of the slide serrated and ion bond the whole gun , and i know i don't want to drop 300 bucks on ion bond now just to have to have it refinished and drop another 300 ( the minimum of ion bond ) again .

Or would you just keep it in the white and try and be very careful about moisture . Unfortunately i live in south florida so humidity is a big problem , i can easily get a silicone gun sock, but i would be hesitant to shoot it at any outdoor matches as that would invite rust . I'm inclined to blue it so i can use it break it in and then ion bond later on .

thoughts ?

I would blue it.

I know a lot of you guys know a lot , but i'm inclined to side with Mr. Cheely on this one. Since bluing costs nothing to remove usually it seems like it would be a good idea . Since i'm in super humid florida stuff can rust really easily . Out of curiosity Matt, what top slide cuts do you like for the most grippiness ? I want to keep the barrel completely closed in so not really your normal cuts with the " speed holes " . Mostly for over the top slide cocking . Thanks for your insight
