Idoktr
Shooting Limited for the first time. In MA so have pre-ban Glock 22 hi-cap mags with Dawson extensions to get around 20 per mag. At first match, the mags would not drop freely. They are drop free mags, however..any ideas? Thanks
mlmiller1
Check front edge top of mag for plastic hanging out. If you find it, take knife and shave it off. Armorer did that to a couple of mine years ago. Kind of worried me but no harm. I take my mags and sand with 400 then 800, 1200, then 1600 grit. Makes em slick. I then use plastic lube called jig a loo. Super slick.
Idoktr
will check, thanks..by the way, nice name for the lube
igolfat8
Try a Wolf 10% extra power spring. It makes the mags eject with greater speed.
coordinator
You can try this too, cut a piece off a plastic milk carton the width of a magazine that will cover both sides of the magazine. Insert the magazine with the overlapping platic in your pistol and let it set for a couple of days. You may have to do that a few times, however it will help with the sticky mags. That's the remedy I've used in the past.

I bought a few of these, and some dropped, and some didn't. My suggestion: find another source, and tell the person you got them from they don't actually drop free and get your money back. Idoktr
The person who sold me the mags, is willing to get me new mags that drop. He gets a big +1 in my book !!! Will keep all informed……...
Idoktr
So, with the exchange 3 of the 4 now drop. I will just keep the 4th mag as my last mag anyway. I will also try the sandpaper on that one and see if can get 4 of 4 to drop.
goat68
Can you add weight to the magazines such as any kind of base pad? Taylor Freelance makes a brass one that will surely drop free. I use the derlin +5 base pads form Taylor and they drop everytime. In the time before Taylor Freelance base pad extenders, we resorted to the frame expanding techniques similar to what "Coordinator" mentioned. Idoktr
I have the Dawson extended mags and even with the added weight, one does not drop. Will try the plastic remedy, then the fine sandpaper if the plastic does not work. Thanks
zachvu
I had this problem in two different mags with two different Glocks. I suppose it's a drawback to running plastic parts! To cure mine permanently, I disassembled a mag, and inserted the actual magazine (without any type of basepad) it upside down into the magwell. It is a tight fight, but should go in with a little wiggling. I then LIGHTLY heated the grip to soften it up a bit. Left the mag in while it cooled, and haven't ever had a problem dropping a mag since! Also - be sure to (safely) test functionality with a loaded mag, as they may fall freely when empty, but bulge a little when loaded.
Sarge
Are they metal lined mags? They should not be swelling much if at all if so

Idoktr
Sorry for the confusion, but I had two issues and two threads. First the mags would not drop. So I got new mags that will now drop with the mag release. Then, with those mags, the mags would drop out during firing on their own without hitting the mag release. Trying everything to see what was up, someone suggested removing the mag well and that did it. So, now I have mags that drop with the mag release button and the same mags will stay in during shooting. Stewart
