TonyK
Lots of companies make combo seat/crimp dies. The single stage press guys have been using them for years. They can work great if they get along with your bullets. Sometimes they just don't get along with certain types of bullets. I use Xtreme flat points in my 45 and they have all sorts of problems in an RCBS combo die and a buddy had the same problems with a Lee combo die with the same bullets. But my RCBS die worked just fine with RN's and the same buddy with the Lee die has no problem with RN's either. I solved my problem by moving the bullet feeder onto station 3 and re-installed my separate Dillon dies and I think they actually make a better finished product... Jim333us
I use RCBS seat/crimp dies on 9 and 45 with a bullet feeder and powder check. Been working great for me?

flyingrhino
I too have a bullet drop die in station 3. I personally have not had much success with combo seating/crimping dies and lead bullets. Some people use them successfully but I find it very hard to get it adjusted properly so that I don't shave lead. I also had issues with the die clogging up with lead and needing very frequent cleaning. I' frequently had issues with tumbling bullets when using the combo. I've never used a powder check die and I have never had an issue (knock on wood) with over or under charges in almost 50 years of reloading. I can see into to the case well enough to check that it looks right. I'm sure there are plenty of folks that would swear by them but I'm not one. I prefer seating and crimping in 2 steps. I love the Dillon dies and I get much better loads with the separate dies than with the combo.
james5m
TonyK is right. Since your installing your bullet dropper in station 3. I would use a seat die in 4 and a Factory crimp die in 5. Edited January 16, 2014 by james5m
cecil
I took the advise of installing bullet dropper in station 3... seating die (Dillon) in station 4... and Dillon crimp die in station 5.. discontinued the use of the powder checker.. just have to get use to looking in the brass to confirm powder level looks correct..
