meatsauce
I'm getting giddy. Looking forward to True Detective starting Sunday...
agalindo
Just watched it. Pretty darn good. Will keep watching.
benos
It was darker and more "artsy" than I anticipated. After the first episode, I can't say if I liked it or not. It may grow on me though.
donnyglock
I agree but I figured it would build slowly.
Candis
I liked it but I thought it was scary. Definitely not something I can watch before bed (I'm a chicken!). I'll DVR it and watch it in the comfortable safety of a Saturday afternoon laundry-folding session!
benos
Watched the second episode last night. I will definitely keep watching it. The acting is top rate, as is the cinematography.
meatsauce
I am definitely digging on it. Between Dallas Buyers Club and noe True Detective, I'm becoming quite the Mcconaughey fan. Very dark, very convincing.
benos
The third episode was off the hook. Mcconaughey, and his dialogue was, at its core, very zen-like, regarding concepts like individually, illusion, and separteness. But he deliverd it in a dark, unsettling way. And The ending was killer - gave me the chills big time.
meatsauce
Ditto. That episode kept me awake half the night thinking about illusion and reality.
swedge58
I couldn't agree more. Very well written show. The dialogue is top notch. That ending left me on the edge of my seat. Can't wait till the next episode.
leper65
After the 3rd episode I'm hooked. It was a little slow the first two episodes, but it's rolling now!
benos
I thought there would have been a 4th episode recorded on my cable last night, but it wasn't there?

meatsauce
Excellent 4th episode. Is it next Sunday yet?
Neomet
Wasn't it not that long ago that Mcconaughey was being pummeled with claims that his acting skills were limited to taking his shirt off? Great acting, dialogue and cinematography. I never watch series and this has me absolutely, completely hooked.
benos
Check Mcconaughey out in the movie "Mud."
Neomet
Yeah, what is funny is we watched that right before we stumbled across True Detective. Great movie.
benos
Yeah, what is funny is we watched that right before we stumbled across True Detective. Great movie. It was. The 2 kids in the movie reminded me of me and my childhood runny buddy. Crazy actually.
surgdog
Whoever is writing for this show is brillant they talk about concepts and beliefs that I have rarely ever heard mentioned anywhere else. But is IS dark. I don't even ask my wife to watch it with me. She wouldn't be able to take it. I barely can.
meatsauce
Anyone else notice the William Burroughs influence in some of the writing? My wife and I had talked about that before. And then last night there was a (very close) paraphrase right out of one of Burroughs' books.

meatsauce
On the show it was "Death invented time to grow what it will kill." William S. Burroughs writes in Ah Pook is Here "Death needs time for what it kills to grow in"
meatsauce
I was disappointed to hear that each season of True Detective gets a new cast and a new storyline.

Brian, If you really want to appreciate the level this show is operating at, you need to understand the Yellow King which is the basis of the series.... http://io9.com/the-one-literary-reference-you-must-know-to-appreciate-1523076497 enjoy, sean
