dirtypool40
Hey guys, my first OPEN gun is being built, but I can't locate any tubes for my new mags. I want at least 4, brand new, unmodified SVI tubes, 140mm. Anyone know of some in stock? I have already checked Borwnell's and Shooter's Connection. No, I don't want used ones or STI's. They rust and jam too much, especially down here. Thanks for the help. PS: Sub question. Has anyone used the Dawson "just right" Pads that turn a 140 tube into a 25 round magazine? I saw them advertised, but don't think I have ever seen them used.
Jon Merricks
Eric, Have you called SV direct? For some reason they only seem to be doing a couple of runs a year. Sending you a PM.

STI's using new steel in their tubes. I just got some directly from STI and they're darker and more "rostfrei" as well as much slicker. Good luck finding the SV tubes... not easy. AFA the Dawson JR pad, I've not seen one in use, either, though I'm planning on trying one out, just for sh!ts and giggles. I figure 3 mags w/ Grams guts and basepads at 23 rounds, 1 170 (with Grams stuff) at 29 rounds, and 1 140 at 25 rounds (with Grams guts) with the Dawson basepad and insert will be good for pretty much ANY stage out there. It's probably not necessary, though.

Kingman
I am having alot of problems with the dawson big basepad that I have. It seems to jam by allowing the catridges to get down beside the follower. I am going to experiment some with using a heavier material on the sides so as to not allow that to happen. I will report what I find. Sorry no idea where to get svi tubes though.

Are you using the insert that was provided? That's the purpose of the insert, to limit the "availability of space" at the bottom of the mag. Cameron
I am having the same issue with the just right setup, and yes, I do have the spacers. The mags will work, but I am only getting 21-23 rounds.
Guest Larry Cazes
I am having alot of problems with the dawson big basepad that I have. I went through the same problem and it would happen with ANY extended basepad as well as the Grams 4mm. The solution is to get the tubes tuned or switch to SV tubes. Unfortunately even though your mags may work today as long as you dont load them fully, the problem gets worse as the springs take a set. SV tubes don't have this problem at all since the bigger single groove down the center of the tube takes up just enough space to prevent the follower from turning sideways and trapping a round. shred
I have a Dawson Just-Right kit on a 170mm mag... as used in my Mech-Tech for 3-gun, since it's like, way over 170mm setup like that. 30+ rounds is fun.. You do need the plastic spacer or the follower will go sideways when it gets to the mag tube part below where the ribs end.
ErikW
Rust is not a problem if you have Tripp hard chrome your tubes.
bulm540
SV has the tubes, they quoted $ 65 dollars per tube $ 75 complete. They will give you a discount if you buy in bulk. I am completely happy with my Brazos tuned STI 140 mags, extremely reliable.
