jnr88
I have pretty large hands. A 2011 is small and just this week I decided to shoot some single stack. Can anybody recommend some good grips for shooters with a large hand? Thanks.
yoshidaex
I thought there was someone making thicker than normal grip panels for those with big hands.
pvhendrix
Contact Enos member sperman he makes a great grip for the1911. It enlarges the grip to 2011 size. He makes them with or without an integral magwell. Edited December 13, 2013 by pvhendrix
IHAVEGAS
the hogue 1911 wrap around rubber grips are a fairly low cost (about 35 I think) option to try, gets you to roughly 2011 size
sandrooney
There is a company that makes a grip to equal the size of the 2011.Sorry don't remember the name.
RayFromHouston
That's what I did on my 1911's..................Hogue wrap around grips.... Edited December 13, 2013 by RayFromHouston
Mikethor
I have the same problem and I asked Larry Davidson to make some thicker than normal grips and that is exactly what he did. I also put in a S&A arched mainspring housing which helped as well.
ParaGunner
Try a Para double stack 1911. Then add some hogue grips to that if it's not big enough.
bountyhunter
I have pretty large hands. A 2011 is small and just this week I decided to shoot some single stack. Can anybody recommend some good grips for shooters with a large hand? Thanks. There is a cnversion grip to make a single stack the same as a 2011 size grip. I have one on my Trojan, it is easier to grip. I also have large hands and long fingers and there is no way to properly grip a single stack 1911 for me. jnr88
Thanks everyone. I'll investigate all the possibilities and report back.
Rick88
I just put 2 layers of skateboard tape on my frame then put the grips back on over that, works very well cheap and easy. Arched main spring housing also makes a better fit.
enroute
I've got size 12 hands, and really liked the fit/feel of the "barnhart burners" (sp?) which came on a new to me Caspian. Not sure if they are still available for sale though.
joshxdm9
I really like the Hogue wrap around rubber grips as well.
jnr88
Just finished installing and shooting my first match with the Perman large grip. I installed these on a Dan Wesson Heritage and could not be happier. Fitting took about 2 hours and the gun now fits perfectly. If anyone is looking for a 2011 grip on their 1911 this is the way to go! Thanks Forum members.
bubbadoc
Can't remember the company, but there was someone that was making 1911 grip panel spacers/ shims Seems like they came in 1/16" adn 1/8" thickness. You just put them under your normal grip (grips screws might also need to be longer). I personally ended up with as thick of wood grips as possible along with arched main spring housings on mine. If you are handy, you could cut your own out of 16 - 24 guage metal and install.... Edited January 28, 2014 by bubbadoc
jnr88
I've received a few PM asking for pictures. Here are a couple.
Jhp147
Thanks for the pic on those...do they copy the shape of the 2011? I had some Davidsons that came close on the maximum point of thickness, but they lacked the sort of squared off profile at the back I seem to recall on the Eagle that fit my hand perfectly. ericjhuber
There is a company that makes a grip to equal the size of the 2011.Sorry don't remember the name. You might be thinking of DSPerman. I just found out about them this week when someone posted a picture of a 1911 with them in the gallery forum.
jnr88
Hi brent, They are as close to a 2011 as I can imagine. I have a few 2011 Limited guns and now my 1911 feels the same.
Jhp147
Thanks, first I have ever heard of these, have been looking for some of the old one that I think Barnhart used to sell.
jnr88
Barnhart still sells them on his website. Depending on your hand size I'm sure they will help but I don't think they are the answer for large hands. Jerry responded to my email and I'm sure he will be happy to answer any of your questions. dogtired
I put one of these on under my grips, it adds some thickness: http://www.pearcegrip.com/Products/Colt/PG1911-1 On my Trojan then I have the Hogue palm swell grips over that. I may have to scrape up the cash to try one of those Perman grips.

I may have to scrape up the cash to try one of those Perman grips. I've got the Hogue and now a set of Perman. Both work ok but I prefer the hogue and they didn't require a dremel & etc. Had to go with Perman to make weight, but for the money I would have been happier buying the hogues and an aluminum mainspring housing to deal with the weight issue.
