RiggerJJ
OK, I guess I haven't broken the code. Been trying to Crono a shotgun birdshot reload. Using a CED M2 and/or a Pact. Getting either an error reading or something very obviously wrong, like 1750fps when it should be closer to 1200. Tried different light conditions AND IR. Tried different distances, still no joy. I am able to get readings that are valid from slugs, but not bird shot. What am I missing? jj
P.E. Kelley
Off hand I would say not enough distance between screens. I have had no problems with a Oehler 35P.
RiggerJJ
'Splain plz Mr Kelly. I can crono slower pistol rounds like 45 just fine... jj
P.E. Kelley
Just a guess...shot string and wad making "connections" with one or both screens at intervals not conducive to correct readings.
RiggerJJ
Aaaa... Rodger that. Figured getting closer would help with that. I have heard that 5-6 feet from the start screen would help instead of 10-15. But didn't seem to work for me. jj

Steve RA
Don't get too far back or you won't have to worry any longer !! (At least, with that chronograph)

340Weatherby
Here is what ProChrony says: To chronograph shotgun loads, stand back at a distance of 5 feetfrom the chronograph to the muzzle of the gun. If you stand too faraway, the shot will spread out too far causing inaccurate velocityreadings. Also, the wad will separate from the shot column and mayhit and possibly damage the chronograph. When using sabots orgas checks, there is a chance they may depart from the projectilepath and hit the chronograph. This may damage the display. Seethe CEI Debris Shield in the accessories section of this manual; itcan provide an additional measure of protection.
redial
Maybe a baffle of some sort is needed if you're required to shoot from only 5 feet, to separate the shot from other bits of the "ejecta" that may be confusing the chrono.
