hysupra
The title says it all. I have gouges about half way up the guide rod. They go around the GR in a circle not scraping towards the barrel. I'm using a Zev GR with their blue coated spring. The spring is still blue and dont see any wear on it, so I have no idea whats making the marks. Would take pics but I dont have a great camera or skills to actually show the marks. Thanks guys Rob
racerba
Probably the washer at the end where it touches the hole in the front of the slide.

gennaro
Try contacting Zev and ask them what might be causing this problem.
Tyro Shooter
it happens when the guide rod is contact with the slide as it is in the full recoil position. the guide rod and the barrel tip up at this point of the recoil cycle and the guide rod starts to ride on the front of the slide were the spring is retained. if it is a 17, 21 or 34 sized guide rod an aluminum washer will hold the rod in place and prevent this blemish from happening (that's all it is is a cosmetic issue, it in no way impedes the recoil cycle) how ever if you do have a 19 sized guide rod you can't use a washer because of spring stack length.(not enough room)
67 LS1 Camaro
Check the muzzle end of the recoil spring . The wire end may need to file down or bent away from touching the guide rod.

hysupra
Thanks guys. I was worried about the recoil cycle getting gritty over time, but if you say its ok I'll trust you. It's a 17 btw. Edited July 19, 2013 by hysupra
