Craig N
I am going to give 3-gun a try this month or next month. I have a Aimpoint that's the old model of what the Pro is now and I have a Nikon M-223 Point Blank 1-4. I got the Nikon in a trade deal when I got the scope on my Remington. Which would be the best to start out with? I know I wont be competitive starting out but I don't wanna handicap myself needlessly.
APL-G35
What kind of distances for shooting? 150yds and in I'd use the red dot 200-400 I'd use the 1-4 with a 200yd zero
Craig N
They have one 100 yard bay and the rest are pistol bays for IDPA and USPSA.
APL-G35
Use the aimpoint it will be faster at those distances
atvman400
I would definitely use the aimpoint at those distances, the FOV on the Nikon sucks. If you are planning on going to some other matches that have longer range stages and use the same equipment then you might want to think about using the Nikon to get use to it. Welcome to 3-gun. Watch out though I got extremely addicted after my first time!
Craig N
I went ahead and ordered 2 shell caddies, hope they get here before Saturday LOL. I have been researching semi shotguns so I think I am addicted already! I liked SASS when i tried it I just couldn't justify getting a new lever gun and spending the price of a semiauto on my SXS. GreenDragon64
I am using the Nikon M223 Point Blank on my 3GAR. I actually zero'd mine today at 50 yards.
fishsticks
Use the aimpoint it will be faster at those distances Agreed. The M223 will also work, and depending on which division you want to shoot and what the local rules are may be a better fit. It is a servicable scope for 3Gun. I wouldn't suggest anyone buy one as there are better choices in that price range. I used one in local 3Gun and carbine matches for the last several years, and it got me by. Jesse Tischauser
Either one should do fine. I'd personally choose the 1-4 in order to have some magnification on the 100 yard stuff.
Craig N
Well I shot the match yesterday......how has something this fun not be outlawed yet? It's a BLAST! Once it sunk in my head that it was 2 hit ANYWHERE on target I thought I can go as fast as I can! I'm hooked!! 5 stages and a classifier was the match and I only had 1 Failure. It was a longer-ish pistol shot and I'm never any good at those anyways lol. I forgot to eject the hull before I started to move on the classifier and couldn't load my shotgun tube till I figure that out but I didn't stop moving towards the 2nd box. All in all I thought it was a great 1st match and a lot more fun that IDPA or USPSA I'm hooked!
