Houston 3gun at Thunder

Recommended Posts

Did not know about this match. I thought LSSA held their matches (at least the LSSA World Shoot) at CCC.

At the West Houston 3G last February I met someone I thought was kind of running the LSSA World Match. Also thought he was involved in the West Houston match.

If so, it might be some of the same.

The facilities are nice but like Impact, the distances will not be great.

Bill

(Jeff, just out of curiosity, are you a member out at Magnolia Misfits Range?)

Bob runs the West Houston Shooters (formally WHIDPA) 3-Gun match out at the Impactzone. Bob also was the MD for the LSSA World Shoot at CCC. Fred Q runs the normal monthly 3 Gun matches at CCC. I don't know who runs the LSSA match at Thunder, this is the first time I've heard of it.

Well I'm packing up and heading out to give it a go. I'll let y'all know what it was like. Not expecting the world but since I had to miss the last CCC and west hou I need to run and gun on something.

Ps don't know about the Magnolia misfits but it look to be mainly cowboy shooting.

Ok folks, the Thunder Shooters 3g match in Conroe was a good time for a local match. The folks there were open and friendly and the 5 COF were quick and fun. The COF are not very long and open, 60 yds was the longest shot but I think they do well to work within those constraints. The match ran pretty fast and we were done in about three hours with about 24 shooters in three squads. The folks that are in the Thunder Shooters club were very friendly and they ran a good little match for 25 bucks. There were no attitudes or any issues from any of the folks I ran into there. Just a good group of folks shooting a little 3G. The facility there is pretty nice and the bays we shot in we're at the back of the range. I believe with the nice facilities and set up this place has, there is great potential to grow their 3G matches in both size and level of difficulty

Just saw this post. I went with a buddy last time and it was bad. Bays size does limit the stage but there is plenty of shade and since the match is done fairly quickly I'm home alot sooner that the match at Impact. Which is nice since I'm in school and working right now. Did I mention shade. I need to see if there is a match this wknd

Are these run on a regular schedule? I have been traveling a lot this year and missed too many matches. I could use some additional trigger time. Conroe is doable.

Its a chance to shoot. Most targets are up close relatively speaking, limited by the size of the bays, can get 100 yard shots, but most rifle are less than 30yds, they have shot clays at 60 yards with rifle, offhand. Also they have had stages that you can point shoot with a rifle , That's a lot of fun. Cease fires can be a pain. Match competes with two other uspsa matches the same day. So many matches, can't make them all.

I was over at the 3 Gun Nation website and see that Thunder Tactical Shooters is signed up to the 3GN Club Series Pilot Program for the 2013 season.

I'm not sure what that means but I hope it means more shooting opportunities. As an affiliated club they are required to submit six classifiers in a 12 month period, but no idea when they are scheduled or if it has begun.

If anyone has any details, please enlighten us.

Steve Vandermollen runs the LSSA matches at Thunder Gun Range. He is associated with the Thunder Shooters Club. The matches are fun, short stages (usually about 30 second runs give or take). They are starting to make the stages bigger, and working on setting up a longer range bay (most stages are in 15 yard bays with one with about a sixty yard shot). This is a great match for beginner, and a good match to get some trigger time in.
