ANYONE HERE USING E3?

WARNING: There is NO manufacturer's published data for E3 in the 9mm. Using E3 in 9mm might be a bad idea. If you decide to experiment with E3 in 9mm, you are taking a risk and assume all associated liability.

My 147 Zero JHP load is 3.3 grains of E3 for a velocity of 920 fps and 135 PF. My popper calibration load is a 124 Berry's over 3.3 grains of E3 for a velocity of 990 fps and 123 PF (17 challenges and 17 poppers down on 17 shots).

3.0 grains of E3 under the 147 gets 860 fps for a 126 PF. 3.0 grains under the 124 Berrys gets 885 fps for a 110 PF. I keep the powder charge in E3 between 3.0 and 3.8 grains, which is conservative based on the data I have collected. I am narrowing in on a load for 125 HAPs and 135 Bayous...maybe a few months I will be done.

I've used a little over 55lbs of e3 so far. Loading 4.5grs with 180gr jhp/fmj in .40(1.20") and 4.0-4.2 gr with 121gr-125gr jacketed bullets in 9mm. The powder is bulky enough that a double charge will spill over or be very obvious. A friend was using it to make minor in .40 with 180gr bullets and was having ignition problems because of light charges. Like was stated above, keep the charge above 3.0gr and you will be good to go. Any of my loads can be used with small pistol primers but I mostly use small rifle. It can be a little smokey with some combinations but all fast powders I've tried can be. As for price, when buying in bulk you should be able to get it for $10/lb.

I don't think I've seen any published data for e3 other than for shotgun.

I have Chrono data from 41F to 76F and I have seen no statistically significant differences. I have not had the time or desire to chrono in 100F heat yet.

Looking at that info I found BE86.. Could this be Brian Enos 86? Seemed like a good powder too. Going to have to try some new things I guess. That is another thing I really like about reloading. Hearing about other powders, and trying them out.

Power Pistol was known as Bullseye 86 when it was a oem powder for the ammunition companies.

No.

Power Pistol is Bullseye 84.

Bullseye 86 is not Power Pistol.

I stand corrected. Is there a bullseye 86?

Yes, there is a BE-86... brand-new powder from Alliant, and no load data on their site for it yet. Also haven't seen it show up at Powder Valley, either, so it's probably still in the pipeline.

Here's a (little) information on it: http://www.alliantpowder.com/products/powder/be-86.aspx

This seems to be the most e3 info available for 9mm. Any other information you guys would like to share on e3 loads for 9mm or 38sp?

I've even heard of a local shooter testing it in 380 loads with good results, but that seems to be pushing the envelope a bit.

It is one of my favorite powers in 9mm. For the 124/125 grain moly or plated bullets you can load 3.3/3.5 for minor or 4.2 for major, for the 147 moly's 2.8 to 3.3 is a very soft and accurate load in all my guns. It gets cleaner as you get into the mid to upper load range and does well with lead and moly. I try to keep all of my loads at 1.135 to 1.45 OAL and have been very pleased with the results using e3.

Good info.

Do you happen to have any data for 115gr HP bullets?

I'm not a competitive shooter; just looking for a clean, accurate load with light recoil.

Anyone use it in .45ACP?? If so, what sort of load - especially for a LSWC 200gr.

Not sure if you're still interested in this powder but I have used 3lbs of it so far. 2.25 OAL 230gr xtreme plated - 3.6gr gets me 733 FPS and 168.59 PF. Unreactive to temp as far as I've seen in mid 90's down to low 60's with not much variation

I used E3 extensively when Nic and I were shooting Limited. 4.5gr with a 180gr MG JHP and 4.3gr with Precision 185gr Moly's. Worked great and was very clean at those pressures.

You sure about that 6.7 load? Not saying it would probably not work but damn! I bet that is a 200+ PF load! I get Major with 3.9 using coated and 4.2 with plated 230's. Just checking.

I've got 16# to burn up.  I really like it, and may just keep using it instead of WST or W231.  One advantage I found out, the flakes are too big to make it through the flash hole. This is handy if you miss a primer, you dont get powder everywhere.

I will post some data tonight.

I noticed this is a flake powder. Will this cause problems in a Dillon XL650 with the Automatic Powder Measure System and the Auto Powder Check?

No, I use it for .40 major in my edge and it meters just fine in my 650
