GOP
Hey guys, looking to get into IDPA shooting, and I'm not sure which vest to buy. Can you guys please help me choose one? I really want it to be fast and easy to clear, I also don't want it to catch on my gun and mags. Here is what I'm looking at - Option 1: http://www.fleetfarm...CFQnonAodnUYA4Q Option 2: http://www.cabelas.c...CFQ2znQodB2MAUg Option 3: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/6/24/302/52091/ITEM/SRH-Warrior-Vest.aspx?SiteID=Google_PLA302&WT.mc_ID=10012&esvt=0-GOUSC&esvadt=9-0-3886819-1&esvaid=30548&kw={keyword}&gclid=COPRk9PqwbYCFQjOnAodyC0ABA I feel like those are heavy enough to really offer good and fast concealed draws. Which way do y'all vote?
Fried Chicken Blowout
All the ones you listed are too bulky and too short for my likes. I'm using this one... http://www.511tactical.com/All-Products/Outerwear/Vests/Covert-Vest.html I prefer a lighter weight vest that does not have a bunch of pockets. The Eotac vest available from IDPA is also very nice. It runs very large so buy a size smaller than you normally would. http://www272.safesecureweb.com/IDPA/eShop/10Expand.asp?ProductCode=LV
MrBorland
I agree with FCB - those you listed seem too short. Not sure how stiff they'd be, too. The most popular vests for IDPA seem to be the 5.11 Tactical and the Woolrich Tactical. I have the 5.11 Tactical, but my next vest will be one from Armadillo Concealment - made to order in the USA, and an active supporter of the sport. The_Vigilante
I vote for this one: http://www.schnees.com/product/Schnees-Fenceline-Vest-Lined/mens-vests/?r=e041013
sroe3
I wear the 5.11 Tactical. Not the Tac lite, mine fell apart and my wife was sewing pockets back on it all the time. I operate equipment for a living so I like the back up belt system for my EDC. At IDPA everyone has a crisp vest with creases, mine is worn and haggard. LincolnOsiris
Hey GOP, I'm a new shooter too, looking to start in USPSA and IDPA also. I am still trying to pick out which gun to use and holster/mag pouches etc. As for the vests, can you just wear your shirt untucked or are the vests a requirement? You can conceal it under any jacket or shirt as long as it stay concealed when you raise your arms parallel to the ground. As for vests the woolrich was the cheapest I could find and it functions quite well.

TediousAndIneffectualMcGee
I normally wear a 5.11 but my wife made me something similar to this to wear around the holidays: It was a big hit.

Flexmoney
I also don't want it to catch on my gun and mags. If that happens to you a lot, your best bet might be kevlar.
jlamphere
I just got one from Armadillo Concealment. Becky is easy to work with and will do whatever you want with the vest. My other is a ExOfficio vest that I don't think they make any more. I see lots of 511 at matches as well. As long as it covers the gun and you can get it out of the way on the draw and reload, it really does not matter that much. I will say, however, that the Brooks Brothers jacket would add some style to the range. Edited April 11, 2013 by jlamphere

LincolnOsiris
Schnee's above makes X-large, XX-large, and XXX-large sizes I would look like an Obese Magic Mike in that one.
Severian
Looking sharp is key. Leather is the way to go. And if it's warm out you can go bare breasted. No one will doubt your manhood.
Shokr21
I think I'm going to be stopping at the local goodwill to pick up a blazer. I'll smoke pipe tobacco in between stages and wear a monocle and an eye patch. Or maybe go with the leather bomber jacket and Indy jones hat. LincolnOsiris
Seriously though, I am big and really need to lose weight but that will take a while! (think Chris Farley size) So I am thinking GOP's option #1 looks good and its only 20 bones.

junkie
Well the rule changed and you don't need to raise your arms up. So go with the fluffy one it looks cool
The Virus
Have you considered something like this? http://www.onyxoutdoor.com/product/0/3870-0345/_/Realtree_Max-4%26%238482%3B_Camouflage_Universal_Sport_Vest It could come in very handy if a Critical Dynamic Incident occurred in or around a body of water. I had to order a couple of sizes larger in order to get it to hang low enough.
RexKramer
I just use either a 5.11 or Woolrich vest. 5.11 is better IMO as it is easier to clear the weapon due to it's stiffness. It is, however, HOT and HEAVY. It's a warm vest to wear in the summer time. Of course nothing says you have to wear it anytime other than when shooting..
