Ambi Safety

I am in need of a new ambi thumb safety. I currently have a STI that is a couple of years old and it has gotten soft and is starting to fail. I am wondering about what the current consensus is as far as what ambi everyone is using.

Of the different brands I have played with, I like the SVI ambi safeties the best

I have considered both of those brands. I am interested in the SV safeties, just not sure about fitting the new optifit safeties. Does anyone have experience with that??

If you have previously fit another brand i.e. EB, Wilson, etc... the procedure and safety checks are the same.

I hate to ask, but when you get a safety for a 1911 there is some fitting that goes along with it?

Yes, it can be a fair amount, and must be tested to ensure proper operation. If done incorrectly you could have an unsafe weapon. I believe this is also in the AGI videos and in SV guide noted above. Be sure you understand the procedure and the disclaimer prior to attempting this.

When I got tired of my stock safety separating constantly on my Springfield 1911, I went with the Caspian locking safety. I'm liking it.

I may not be posting this in the right place however, I decided to go with with a wilson high ride ambi. I fit the part and everything is good as far as safety checks. My question is in regards to how far the safety lever goes down. My safety detent plunger does not go into the safety detent. Is this normal??

No. Some fitting on the bottom may be needed, or the groove between the lever and the safety may be narrow and riding on the frame, or the right side is touching the frame too early.
