10mm Reloading

Hey guys I finally got a Glock20 and im trying to find a decent accurate practice load for it. I have a bunch of Unique left over from loading my 9mm/,357/.40 and with todays shortages would just like to run through it before i find a more suitable powder to use. I have a bunch of berrys double struck 135/165/180 grn and was wondering whats a good starting load for 180gr? I have only found a few sources that say start with 6gr of unique and work up from there. I also have seen a few sources that say start at 8gr. When the powders/MG/Zero are more plentiful Ill switch to those. I'm running a BarSto factory length barrel.

I was thinking Berrys 180gr with 6gr of unique at 1.26 OAL? School me please..

I'm in the same boat; after a 4 month wait I finally received my blue label Gen 4 Glock 20. Want to play with loads but there's no damn jacketed .40 out there. Cant remember where but I saw some interesting loads using Vit open powders like 3N38 and N105. Happen to use N105 for my Open gun but cant see wasting it on 10mm blasting ammo though.

Steve, what do you hope to do with the ammo in this application? Your load of 6gr Unique will make major if you want to shoot IPSC with it. For more "robust" loads that many like me like in 10mm, Unique is not as good as Longshot and other powders.

Unique is just what i have laying around atm. I will get some Longshot and VV 3n37 when I get to the range. I was just wanting to load some light plinking loads so I can shoot when I get there. I just wanted some options if they didnt have any particular powder. I love the VV 3n37 but its kinda pricey for plinking but will look for some longshot when I get there. Any other powders I should pick up as well? Im not into buying bulk online until i dial something in. The indoor range I usually go to doesnt allow chronographs so its hard to check speeds. I dont want to get anything close to max just yet. Thanks so much for the responses guys keep em coming!

I use Longshot for my 10mm guns (G20SF and G29SF). Works great for hot loads and seems to be available more than other powders.

I've found Unique fine for mid-range practice loads, but I've always used jacketed bullets in 10mm. For plated, 6 gr should be pretty close to a start load and 1.26" is good for OAL. Because you don't want to push plated bullets too fast (to avoid separation), I would start in the low 6 gr range and work up in 0.2 increments until you get a load that shoots and "feels" like you want it to.

Once you can get jacketed bullets, Blue Dot and Longshot are pretty popular for hotter loads.

Hi

You're on the right track..

Got a G20-SF last summer and have been loading quite a bit.

I started out trying some Rainer 180gr bullets.. (on top)

Unique did pretty well. Unique is usefull in 10mm but it's not the optimum powder full power loads. But I think you already know that..

Another thing, you can't push plated bullets very fast out of a Glock. Under 950fps is Ok.

Then I found some Speer 180gr TMJ and started developing loads with that bullet.
