rutilate
I'm brand new to competition shooting and am interested in purchasing a production pistol that will serve as many purposes as possible. I've found the list of pistols eligible for USPSA: http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-NROI-production-gunlist.php and for IPSC: http://www.ipsc.org/rules/proddiv.php It seems as though IDPA is less restrictive. Has anyone gone through and joined the two lists to determine which pistols would work for both?
bigfish
If its for competition only in the most basic divisions I would say a M&P9 pro or a Glock 34. If you want to carry it also then a G17 and fs m&p9. If those are to big the third choice would be a G19. I would think uspsa is less restrictive as far as production vs ssp goes. uspsa allows berretas and cz 75s in production. SSP, I could be wrong but think they are both in ESP

Chris Keen
I think the M&P 9 Pro actually is approved for IPSC. http://www.ipsc.org/rules/proddiv.php 39, 59, 410, 439, 459, 539, 659, 669, 908, 910, 915, 1006, 1066, 3913, 3913L, 3913TSW, 3914, 3953, 3953STSW, 4006, 4043, 4046, 4013TSW, 4053TSW, 4513TSW, 4553TSW, 457, 4506, 4516, 4566, 4586, 5904, 5906, 5946, 6906, 6926, 6946 SW99, M&P9, M&P9C, M&P9 Pro, M&P9L, M&P357, M&P40, M&P40 Pro, M&P45, M&P45C, M&P40C, M&P9VTAC Edited March 10, 2013 by Chris Keen
Sarge
Yeah I looked at Glocks on there and saw PRO listed. I guess my mind made the quantum leap to an m&P. What is a PRO in Glocks anyway? I have never heard that one.

chirpy
I hope I am understanding your question. Where do you live that you would shoot IPSC a lot? I would think that most matches in the US are under USPSA rules otherwise if the matches are IPSC, very few in your area would be under USPSA rules. Now, if you are talking IDPA, that is a bit different. Richard
Bunsen
Would recommend a CZ 75 or an XDm.
ericjhuber
I thought about doing a Glock 17 for my primary competition gun since it seems to universally approved for production type divisions, but I went with the G34 Gen 4 to start even though that puts me, as I understand it, into Standard for IPSC. I'll add a Glock 17 to the inventory for the next GSSF Coupon, I think, so that I can use it for production IPSC and as a 9mm alternative to the Glock 21 that I'm using for most of my GSSF shooting now.
