.452 recipe.

hey folks, with alot of reloading supplies are out of stock, i am think of running a .452 diameter bullet instead a .451 bullet. what would be a good recipe? i am going to try to stay with a 230 grain bullet.

What type of bullet, lead, fmj, etc?? 0.001" difference really doesn't make much difference in pressure in my experience, with safe loads to begin with.

Might also want to say what else you have on hand or is readily available. It doesn't do anyone any good if they give a recipe for say clays and there is none to be found.

.452 diameter lead bullet with 3.7 to 4.4 grains of clays works just in my guns. The 3.7 grain load is much more pleasant to shoot.

You very well may get better accuracy with the .452 over the .451s.

I plan on using Winchester 231 but may switch to whatever is avsilable

Try 4.0 to 4.2 Grs. of Nitro 100.

Do you have a chrono or access to one? Try 5.4gr of 231 under the 230gr (you should be pretty close to making major), I'm a little hesitant to give a COAL without knowing a particular bullet make but I'd say start at 1.250"

Remember always work a load up, also make a couple of dummies to check if that COAL feeds. If it doesn't shorten it until it does. But work the load back up when you have a working COAL.

I have been told that 4.3gr. of Bullseye under a 230 RN will make major PF. I haven't tested this for myself as I have been shooting 200gr. and waiting for my 230's to come in. for 200gr. 5.0gr of Bullseye makes 165
