If making it you will need a method to cut the .223 cases down to .300 Blackout dimensions-trimmer or saw are the methods used. Then you can run it thru the dies you choose to use. n2ipsc Posted February 26, 2013 Share Posted February 26, 2013 Buy a Dillon Rapid Trim 1200 case trimmer and get yourself a dedicated toolhead and trim die from Brad's Warehouse... Lubed 223 cases go in the case feeder, nice new 300BLK cases drop in the bin Clean the lube off, and load as you would 223's, except for a couple of additional tweaks... Replace the powder funnel with a Dillon p/n 13015 (for 7.62x39/300 Whisper), and, Adjust the metal "clip" on the bottom of the case feeder, at the opening over the drop funnel/tube, to make the opening smaller and ensure the cases drop base-first into the tube Beyond that, it's no different than loading 223. My setup uses a neck-sizer in station 1 (or you can F/L resize, again) - the Dillon 1200 seems to undersize necks a bit and running an expander ball through them once again not only makes seating bullets (especially flat-base) easier, but tends to "roll out" any burr left behind by the trimmer (keeps from "shaving" your bullets). Looking at various reloading component supplier websites, even all the shotgun primers are all sold out. I've never seen anything like this panic before. I have plenty of my own 5.56 brass so I plan to convert it to 300 BLK. My original post was intended to get opinions on how do that. The 300/221, 300 whisper, 300 blk wasn't the best fit for my use (subsonic hard hitting hunting round) but I know folks that have them, like to learn from folks and love homemade. My procedure is to trim on the minisaw/with jig; decap with Lee universal decap die; tumble in SS media to remove burrs and clean the brass; setup my 650 with a Hornady sizing die and size/form the 300BO ; Trim the brass to size with my Little Crow WFT trimmer; Run all the brass through the SS media to clean off brass shavings/burrs; then lube and load. I only have to go through the procedure one time to form the brass, obviously, and fire forming allows me to only have to clean and neck size for subsequent reloads. Seems like a lot to do, but it's only once and I'm usually doing something else while the tumbler is running, ect. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
