pdice
I'm thinking of getting the dawson nogap magwell and the associated mags, but I'm concerned that it will now be possible to overfeed the magazine into the frame without the stop on the front of the mag that engages the frame. I used to have a lot of trouble with my STI Eagle and overfeed the mags into it, shoving them up so high that it hit the ejector and was wedged. Is that same problem now possible if I go with the nogap magwell and mags? If so, I'll probably stick with the standard magwell they have. DRobson
Doesn't dawson have a mag catch that will prevent over insertion?
pdice
I think so, but is that any different than a 2011 magazine? It seems to me if you still shove it fast enough and hard enough, you can get past that catch like I have done before.
L3324temp
I just picked up a Trojan 9mm from Dawson with this setup. I don't see how it is possible to over insert the mag. The mag basepad seems to hit a small section of the gun frame by the front of the magwell (yes, I have the no-gap magwell). This seems to be as designed. HI5-O
Doesn't dawson have a mag catch that will prevent over insertion? Dawson Precision posi-lock is the one designed for this.
Ssanders224
The use of the "No gap" magwell and basepads together eliminates the overinsertion problem. It is part of the design. the bevel on the basepad will come into contact with the magwell, and prevent overinsertion.
pdice
Great, thankyou. I'll go ahead and order now.
MikeRush
It looks like you have made your decision, I just wanted to add I have not had a problem with my no gap ice despite some pretty "spirited" slide lock reloads.
Scootertheshooter
I have shot thousands thru mine with the set up you speak of and never had an issue

Norther
Lots of rounds. No problems. I really like it.
ppcgm
I've been shooting an STI Trojan in 9mm for a couple of years now and the only problem I ever had with over insertion was with a "no gap basepad" magazine in the STI magwell. The rest of my magazines have the "Competition Standard" basepad and I now use that "no gap" magazine for my Barney. It's fine with the slide closed. But if you speed load one of those with your slide locked back, you just blew that stage.
Norther
the only problem I ever had with over insertion was with a "no gap basepad" magazine in the STI magwell. There's the problem. No-gap pads are for no-gap magwells. The pad stops on the no-gap magwell, but not on any other model/brand.
polizei1
Yep, as long as you get the no-gap magwell AND mags, you won't have an issue. At least, I don't. Love the combo BTW.
