Glock 22 Limited build, what to do?

I started shooting USPSA with a Single Stack 1911. Wanted to branch out and try other Divisions, so I picked up a Glock 22 intending to use it in Production. Showed up, but didn't have many mags with me since I bought it the day before using it. 1 of the guys I normally shoot with uses a Glock 35, and has tons of mags so I figured I could borrow 1 or 2, but he was out sick that day. 1 of the stages had a high round count, and I would have been a couple rounds short. So I topped my mags off and had the RO bump me to Limited. Really enjoyed shooting it in Limited. I want to build this gun up for shooting Limited only.

Have done a few mods to it so far. I added an extended mag release, extended slide release, replaced the springs except for the striker, polished the trigger components, and added a uncaptured guide rod with 15lb spring. I also picked up some Arredondo +5 mag extensions. Luckily I picked up several spare mags before the current craziness started.

So I am wanting to do a budget build with it. With everything else going on right now, I just can't dump tons of cash into it. I am trying to figure out what else to do to her for now. And I will probably end up doing one thing at a time.

My thoughts so far are (not necessarily in this order):

1. Magwell

2. New sights (currently have stock sights)

3. Maybe a new barrel (not sure on this one)

Not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

You are on the right track. I would change the sights first and then look at a magwell or a freelance seattle slug. I have used both and find that the slug is just as effective as a full magwell and I noticed that they had some with blemished finish on their website for $19.99. You can add more weight with a full magwell but mags without an extension will be a pain to use. May want to look a tungsten guide rod as well.

Never heard much positive about an extended slide release but if it works for you GB. Sometimes the wh thumb has a habit of activating the sr at the wrong time.

FWIW

Richard

Not an issue for me. I bought a Glock only after finding out I could use the extended release. I hated the stock release.

If you're a righty, you may find that will change with time.....

I once thought as you did, and then when my grip evolved to being very high, all of a sudden I started locking the gun open with rounds left in the mag.....

Sights and magwell and you're good to go.

You didn't say if you were a reloader. Just know that it takes more powder to make major out of a Glock 22 vs 35. Most will find recoil management easier with a longer gun.

I do not reload yet, but plan to start soon. That's one of the reasons I don't want to buy a 34 or 35, is so I can save the cash to get a press and gear. I am using reloads in my gun though. There is a local business that does reloading for local matches. I buy my reloads from him. His prices are hard to beat, but in times like now when stuff is hard to get, it would be nice to have my own stockpile of ammo parts.

I would do new sights (first ) and a magwell and call it done. No need for a new barrel unless you are having issues with yours

Not really having issues with mine. Was mainly wondering if it was worth doing. I know it makes a huge difference with rifles, but this is a pistol.

I will probably be ordering sights and a magwell today. Selling a few things this morning to fund the build. I'll post up new pics next week or so once I get the parts in and installed.

Thanks for all the replies. You guys confirmed what I was thinking.

Went to my LGS today and they had some nice sights in stock. Had them install some new sights for me. Went ahead and ordered a magwell, tungston guide rod, and 15lb recoil spring when I got home. Also picked up new springs for the trigger, titanium firing pin safety, and a lighter spring for the safety. I already have a 3.5lb ghost connector and have polished the trigger parts up. I also ordered another Arredondo mag extension.

I think I'll be good to go for a while now. Parts have already shipped, should have them in time to shoot Friday. I'll post up a new pic or 2 once everything comes in.

I have been a loyal glock competitor for a while. I second what the others say on sights first, but looks like you got your parts already. I was looking at building a new limited 35, but after some soul searching I made the move to 2011's.

be honest with yourself on what platform you wanna shoot because it looks like whatever you have in hand here soon is going to be what you are stuck with for the foreseeable future. It really sucks but is very probable.

All that said, have fun shooting limited!

I may build a 2011 in the future. Just in case, I picked up some 2011 mags right after all this crap happened, but before all the panic buying started. I figure the only thing that may be hard to get in the future is the mags. I paid normal price, so if I chnage my mind at a later date, I could just sell them. I bought "high cap" mags for several pistols I don't own yet, but want to get in the future, just in case. Went ahead and picked up a bunch of extras to so if they do manage to get a mag ban through, and I have one break, I will have a few spare. I am gonna buy a few more as I can find them to. That's oen fo the reasons I am not wanting to buy another pistol right now like a Glock 35.

I compete with Glocks and a P16-40. The Glock barrel is fine with plated/jacketed ammo and is very accurate with good ammo. If you are starting out, I would just change the sights, do a quick 25 cent polishing job (can google it) to slick up some of the gritty contact surfaces, and that's it. Spend $$ on ammo and a reloading press!

You can add other things as you learn the Glock trigger and get better.

And the gun porn as promised;

20130122_130246_zps9619cb68.jpg

Glock 22

Arredondo +5 extensions on all of the mags

Ameriglo FO front and Adjustable rear sights

.25 cent trigger job, + extra power trigger spring, 3.5lb ghost connector, titanium firing pin safety and lower power spring. (all Zev parts)

Zev Brass magwell with large brass insert

Zev tungston guide rod & 14lb spring

Factory extended slide release

Factory extended mag release (may eventually swap this out for a Zev release)

Overall, very satisfied with it so far. I am not planning to do anything else for a while. I'm just gonna shoot it and get used to the way she is now, and then I'll make any decisions on other parts later. I really don't think I need much else anyways. I also want to be able to take off the magwell, swap out the guide rod, and be able to shoot Production in some of the matches that don't allow Limited guns, like the Factory Gun Classic this winter.

Sights and a Seattle Slug Plug. You will like the extra weight. A mag well on a Glock is unnecessary, IMO.

That's what I have on my 35, plus did a trigger job, stainless guide rod, and full Grip job.

All together I have a Gun that runs great. I may swap the barrel out later, especially if I decide to start reloading, but for the moment the gun performs better than I can shoot.

Here is what it looks like:
