SDM
I’ve got an older LA Savage 110 .243 that I’m thinking of re-barreling. Gun’s not worth a lot and I have no need for a .243. My thought is rebarrel it. Where is the best place to get the tools and barrel? What about medium quality stock? This won’t be a competition gun, just a hunting rifle. kevinj308
These are the tools and parts I used, all from Midway. You'll need headspace gauges to install the new barrel as well. Keep in mind that any small shank Savage barrel will fit, short or long action. Small shank thread is 1.050. They do have large shank barrels that I believe are 1.125 thread diameter. I think just about all the barrel mfg's make pre fit barrels for Savages. I like Shilen, and Midway carries them in stock so it worked for me. This guy is a savage smith and parts mfg : sharpshootersupply.com. I've never done business with him, but he's been around forever. Hope this helps Kevin http://x2t.com/barrel http://x2t.com/wrench http://x2t.com/1/action
centilltpgc
I re-barreled a Stevens 200 (basically a Savage 10 action) action and I went with a Criterion barrel chambered in 284 Win from Jim at Northland Shooter Supply. There is a ton of information at Savageshooters.com forum about this and Jim is a vendor over there. Haven't stretched it out and developed loads yet. Headspacing was pretty simple and the swap was a breeze. Good luck. Lucas
SDM
I'm thinking I'll call him and see what he has in stock. I've got to make a decision on what caliber.

havotec1
I just rebarreled a savage sa action in 7 mm saum. Went with a schillen barrel and hs stock , it was super easy to put together and headspace. There is a great writeup including pictures that walks you through the process at western shooter.com
1760yds
If your gun is currently a 243 you'll need to buy a new bolt head if you leave that family size of cartridges. Depending on how old your gun is that could get complicated. If you didnt want to mess with bolt heads the easiest cartridges to rebarrel to would be 308, 7mm-08, 260, 243, etc.
bushmeat
Since it's a long-action, you could go .270 or 30-06 too, without getting a new bolt head. Just wondering why, if all you're using it for is hunting, you don't like the .243? It's more than enough for whitetail and accurate to use on varmints. mike l m
rebarrelled a Savage 112 in 22-250 with a Kreger .308 with 11 1/2 twist. works fine. still working up a load for it. Will start with Berger 185's to start. Mike
havotec1
I would look at bell and carlson stocks. Great quality and reasonable price.
