amish_rabbi
So im starting to do some pistol/shotgun matches and have to buy a shotgun so i can stop borrowing other peoples. Standard thread, but the twist is that im in canada and if i go with a semi auto shotgun i only get 5 rounds in the tube and if i go pump i can get as many as i see fit (for arguments sake lets say 8) For those of you that have shot, which is more valuable overal, soft recoil or capacity? Alaskapopo
Given your restrictions I would go with a Benelli Nova pump gun. 5 rounds just aint enough. Pat
rln
I own both, I think I would go with capacity. That also has the added benefit of lower cost. The Nova mentioned already, would be a great choice.
XD Niner
Definitely the pump. The time you save reloading will more than offset the small amount of extra time required between shots.
landshark45
Super nova. Biggest loading port iv ever seen. Even bigger than the standard nova. Throw a +8 nordic on it and rock out.

MarkCO
Super nova. Biggest loading port iv ever seen. Even bigger than the standard nova. Throw a +8 nordic on it and rock out. Yep. FWIW, WInchester makes 980 fps low recoil loads that make a pump shoot as soft as an Auto...
co-exprs
I currently run an SLP and a SuperNova. I can reload the Nova faster than the SLP and there is only a shooting time defecite if targets are lined up close. When targets are close an auto can really mow, but I don't get to shoot many stages like that. I've never timed them back to back, but I can run that pump gun just about as fast as my autoloader most of the time. Faster reloads makes up the rest of the time. Go with capacity. Also my SuperNova honestly kicks about the same as my SLP with the same loads (which is soft).
amish_rabbi
Well pump gun it is then, ill get my hands on a nova and a super nova to see which feels best for me and buy it. Since im going to throw a +8 or so on it, what barrel length would you guys recomend, 24 or 26?
rln
I have a 26 inch barrel on mine. Barrel and mag tube are about the same length. It holds 9+
HRider
If you are planning on having the long tube, you might as well have the sight radius and velocity of the longer barrel to go with it. I have a 24" Nova with a +5 Nordic tube (8+1 capacity), the tube is even with the end of the barrel. A 26" barrel with extended choke and a +6 Nordic tube work out close to the same length also. D__
The best option would be Benelli SBE2 and get extension plugged to 5 3-1/2 shells and bolt altered to allow ghost load. Then run 2-3/4 shells. You're legal to 8 plus 1 plus 1 off the start.
sarpau
I'm guessing at this point you guys aren't differentiating semi/pump divisions? Just a run what you brung division? As D_ mentioned, if you find a 3.5" chambered platform that you like, you can plug the extension so it just barely doesn't get that 6th 3.5" shell in the tube. That way you are still legal and you can hold more 2 3/4 But if you are going pump, I'll give one more vote for a nova/supernova.
Sudden Death
do the pumps with 8 plus rounds shoot in the same division as the simi autos with 5 rounds ??? If they are in seperate divisions it will be the same for all who is shooting simi auto or pump, and it will be up to you to learn to pump fast or reload fast ??? sarpau, you hit the nail on the head... loneranger04
I'd go with the Super Nova since the lifter stays up out of the way while loading.
