chp5
With a little luck, the ban will sunset in weeks. I would like a M-4 type collapsable stock on my non-competition AR. I don't want to pay $200+ for the fancy Magpul or similar stocks. Are the 6 position stocks from RRA, Bushmaster, DMPS, etc pretty much the same? Thanks. Wakal
Most of my AR's fly LE colours (so to speak), and I'm a big fan of collapsible stocks. Not because they are easier to hide or anything Bradyish and stupid (but I repeat myself), but because Liota is eight inches shorter than I am. What I consider to be a proper stock length forces her to assume rather amusing shooting positions My favorite GI-type folder is a six-position M4 stock from Bushmaster. Solid, easy to manipulate, and as comfortable to shoot as that type of folders get. I have a couple of the $29 Chinese folding stocks...the old CAR style with the loop on top. Not quite as solid, and I don't like the top loop much...however, $29 instead of $89. For my Mech-Tech, quite enough stock My Open AR15 and Open AR10 both wear the same model of stock. The ACE Long SOCOM...solid, confortable, but a little pricey. Very solid, a little harder to manipulate than the M4 or CAR style, but the close-cell foam cover over the buffer tube is very comfortable (especially on an Open gun with top mounted optics and a forend-mounted dot sight...same "feel" no matter what angle the rifle is canted). BPiatt
In case you didn't know, not all collapsable stocks are the same dimensions. The "CAR" have a smaller butt area that contacts your shoulder, than the M4 stocks. The Car is also square to the barrel line while the "M4" stocks are at a slight angle. Another thing to consider is the plastic vs. metal. While the alum may be stronger, I can tell you first hand that the metal stocks are CCCOLD in the winter. Ever stick your tounge to an ice cube??? Jumped a little when that doctors stethescope hits your chest??? Try putting a 20 degree F piece of aluminum on your cheek and hold it there for a while.
