GorillaTactical
UPDATE: PROBLEM WAS SOLVED BY SLIGHTLY LOOSENING THE CAPTURE SCREW ON THE GUIDE ROD. I DIDN'T HAVE IT IN THERE SUPER TIGHT, BUT THE SLIDE APPEARED TO BE HANGING UP ON THE HEAD OF THE SCREW SOMEHOW WHEN RETURNING TO BATTERY. AFTER COMPARING THE GUIDE ROD WITH THE FACTORY POLYMER ONE, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS SLIGHTLY SHORTER IN LENGTH. I UNSCREWED THE CAPTURE SCREW TO MAKE THEIR LENGTH'S EQUAL, THE BINDING CEASED AFTER THIS ACTION. I APPRECIATE THE HELP IN IDENTIFYING EXACTLY WHICH PART WAS CAUSING AN ISSUE. Hey guys, been messing around with a G17 to Open/Fun Gun conversion....haven't even shot this one yet, as I'm having a problem with springing the bad-boy. When I rack the slide slowly (it also happens when I rack hard, but less frequently), as it returns to battery, it gets hung up JUST out of complete battery, close enough where I can still pull the trigger, but when I do, I can feel (and see) the barrel and slide shift just slightly forward in the gun. This happens without ammo or a magazine in the gun and with the snap-caps I've tried. Well at first I figured it was a problem of the light recoil spring, but when I changed it out for a 13# spring (which cycled flawlessly in the gun previously), it had the same problem, except that it was more noticeable when it happened (it stopped hard whereas with the 11# it was a more mushier stop to the binding point), I could literally knock the gun back into full battery by hitting the rear of the slide and it would make this very loud metallic click noise when I did this, which leads me to believe something else is wrong and parts are binding up somewhere. I tried altering the guide rod, end plate, striker and spring combo, etc, figuring this might have been the issue, with no success.......My current suspicion is still that it has something to do with the screw/washer which capture the spring on the guide rod. It feels like the slide is having trouble/binding up at the head of the screw. It'd be one thing if I would just have to shoot major rounds with the gun because it wouldn't return to battery with the lighter spring, but if the 13# won't work either I gotta think something is def. not right. Part List: BB 5 Port Comp LW Barrel BB SS Captured Guide Rod w/11# ISMI Slideride JPoint Brownells End-Plate Slide Racker 4.0# Firing Pin Spring Zev Lightened Striker These are all the parts that I can think of that would have any effect on the problem I'm having...The striker and spring have been used in the past with success. I've messed with multiple combinations, but the problem persists. Thought? Comments? Words of Wisdom? Flexmoney
Put the stock barrel in it and see what it does with your spring setup. Then, with the Open gun parts, put the stock recoil spring assembly into it and see what it does. (in other words, change one thing at a time and see where it is at)
GorillaTactical
Put the stock barrel in it and see what it does with your spring setup. Then, with the Open gun parts, put the stock recoil spring assembly into it and see what it does. (in other words, change one thing at a time and see where it is at) Still does it with the stock barrel and with all of the other parts being cycled out with the exception of the recoil assembly. With the weight of some of the parts removed from the slide, it isn't as evident, but it's still there. It doesn't do it with the factory recoil spring / guide rod.......I don't have another guide rod anywhere other than the one I ordered and the factory one, so it's hard to identify if it's spring weight or guide rod related......I'm thinking guide rod. Thanks for the input Flex, I'll see what I can do with this guide rod.
