DRobson
Best bet is to reduce the loads given on here and work up a load for YOUR gun. You do have access to a chronograph right?
buckaroo45
+1 with Eku. 6.8 - 1.145 - except MG 124 JHP. Made 170PF in my G17 w 5 port comp. Also VERY accurate.
shooter995
See in my gun 6.8grns of AC won't even come close to making Major in my Open G17. I am at 7.2grns of AC with MG 124grn JHP's loaded at 1.160, make 172 all day!

BillChunn
I have a SJC G17 open built for majorDo you think your load data would be good for my Hdy 124 gr FMJs? As with every weapon, there are differences in each barrel due to manufacturing. I've had barrels from the same source have a difference of 3-7 PF. Start below the recommendation that was quoted, (like about 6.6 grains or lower) load up 5 rounds and then there is only one way to find out if your combination makes major. Shoot the load over a chronograph using your weapon. If it doesn't make major, bump it up .2 grains (thats point 2 as in two tenths of a grain) and repeat. Differences in brass, primarily due to internal web strength which affects capacity, will also produce different velocities and of course power factors. Use brass from the same manufacturer when developing your load. Edited October 8, 2012 by BillChunn
EkuJustice
In an open gun at major you want to avoid FMJ and go eithe JHP or CMJ(fmj with the base coated). 6.8 works in mine because im loading it to 1.145 and not 1.160. If I was loading longer, It would take more powder to get the PF

EkuJustice
For major you want the base covered so your comp wont lead up Check out the Montana gold cmj. Price is almost identicle to their cmj and has the same profile as the cmj just with no exposed lead base
