freezingduck
I wasn't planning on buying a gun for IPSC Classic division yet, but then I came across a used Springfield Custom shop gun. I cant travel to try it, but its a chance I am willing to take. Is this a better Gun for IPSC Classic than let say a STI Trojan? A new trojan is around 10.500nok here in norway. The used Springfield comes with a STI bull Barrel, 8 magazines, a holster, a ported barrel in 38 super and a lot more, including a cheap red dot. The Springfield is 9.000nok. http://www.finn.no/finn/torget/tilsalgs/annonse?finnkode=37513359
Braxton1
I believe that this is an older Springfield Custom gun (probably when Les Baer was the Shop Director). You can tell because it has an Ed Brown beavertail instead of an Springfield one. You'd be shooting Minor in competition with this gun, since it is a 38 Super. If you're inherently an accurate shooter, the points penalty may be offset by the bigger mag capacity (8 rounds versus 10).
cuzinvinny
The one thing that keeps me away from open guns is the costs associated with them. 38 super brass is expensive, so it really hurts losing brass at a match. Since my eyes aren't as young as they once were, I don't tinker much with any of my guns. I could be off base here, but I see a lot of open gun shooters who are forever fixing or tinkering with their guns and magazines to keep them running properly. So having to pay someone to keep an open gun running properly keeps me from buying one. I am however extremely please with my Trojan. Brass is plentiful for either the 9mm, 40 S&W or .45 ACP, and it just keeps running. If I were deciding, I would go for the Trojan.
Jammer1911
Also for SIngle Stack Division you must have a bushing barrel
Guest
I believe it is an older springfield custom, also. Nice looking gun, and those were pretty well built. The scope mount is a redd buff for a 30mm tube and you got an old PDP3 Tasco ProPoint, the grip has been set up to hide most of the scope mount holes on the left side when not using the scope mount, and from the pictures it looks like you have a .38 super barrel with a two chamber comp and a 5" 9mm barrel. Comes with some mags and an old Safariland 009 holster (which is actually a pretty nice holster), and a couple pouches. I don't know about the rules in your country but if you are limited to 10 rounds you might find this to be a good entry into open class, otherwise with the 9mm barrel and the legal holster for single stack it would be a good gun and be competitive in that division. Having the super barrel and comp with the red dot and that holster would make that a decent steel challenge type gun, too. Or you could dabble in open. Personally I really like the old Springfields so I am biased, but I say if it runs with both the super and 9mm barrels it would be a fair deal for the money (about $1585 usd I believe). I'd take it over the Trojan. edit: Jammer brought up a good point about the bushing barrel 1911. The 9mm looks to be a bull. Might still have the bushing keyway in the slide, though. Would have to get another barrel fit for the bushing. Edited October 6, 2012 by Bamboo
freezingduck
In IPSC Classic division a bull barrel is allowed as far as I understand;) I was not planning on using the compensated .38 super barrel at all, but to use it with the 9mm barrel for Classic division Minor. oak hill
Nothing wrong with minor. I do it in single stack.
Suicycle
That is a good looking springer. That would be the way I would go.
