Lets see some shotgun sights

I love those rear sights milled in. This will definitely be a winter mod. I've missed my last slug target!!!!

Do most people modify the point of impact with the sights or by bending the barrel? Mine shoots high and left (more high than left) from 40-70 yards and I wonder if I put in a rear sight that is taller than the rib, it's only going to shoot higher. The rear sight will surely correct the windage issue but it'll be pushed off to one side and not centered. I wonder what that will look like when I'm staring down the barrel. I've shot so many clays that mounting and pointing a shotgun is pretty natural. I don't want to loose that but do want to be able to square up a sight on slugs.

Thanks, Patrick.

Does the notch give any advantage? I assume you just place the front sight into the notch and use the same sight picture for slugs as well as birdshot.

Also looks like you need to sit the sight up higher to use the notch, versus the standard setup.

So, just to clarify, no need to buy the 3 sight set SG-3001-1

I can get away with buying a pistol sight set and just use the rear?

I don't follow any "use this" on setting up shotguns with sights.

I have used the express V but only with my added notch. I don't care for express sights on my pistols either. Give me a notch and post any day!

On some shotgun I use "take-off" 1911 rear sights that I trim and regulate for POA / POI.

I some cases I use pistol dovetail front sights if I need a low sight height and in other instances I use rifle front sights.

One can make significant POI changes with the right combination of fronts and rears for elevation.

The same can be said for windage by splitting the offset between the front and rear. That way you

don't end up with a rear that is hanging off the rib!

The Express unit that is built for shotguns is narrow to fit the width of the rib and looks nice.

Patrick,

for rifle front sights, which do you recommend? I'm trying to figure out a rugged front sight to pair up with the ghost ring rear on one of my Versa Max's and need something 0.4" tall or so.

Both Hi-Viz and Williams make something that I have been thinking of using.

I have used both, but the nod goes to the HiViz because of the interchangeable light pipes.

my 21" M1S90 has a 10/22 milled in about .100" deep, and use a HiViz Flashpoint with second tallest triangular light pipe to get point of aim... the triangular tip shows up well in the rear notch

sorry, a little fuzzy...cable tie is not visible when shooting

Which XS express sight is being used for the rear? I'm guessing it doesn't matter and any of the pistol sights work?

XS makes a set of 3 different heights specifically listed for shotguns. Check this page, about 1/2 way down. http://xssights.com/index.php?nID=specialty&cID=Specialty%20Products&pID=specialty

I got lucky. The lowest sight worked great for my Nova, while the middle height sight worked great for my M1. It's not as good of a sight picture as something like Patricks, but I do like the low profile, snag free rear.

Bryan - how deep did you cut the dovetail for the 3 sight set?
