Robert King
I removed the firing pin and extractor from my new open gun (Predator Tactical Banshee) this evening, for the first time. Also the first time I have done this on any S*I gun. Well, the extractor came out and I saw some small parts go flying. I found the extractor spring cup and one spring. 1. How can I tell what brand extractor I have? 2. Are there 2 extractor springs? It looked like there should be and I just lost one. 3. Are springs universal or do I need to buy a spring that matches my extractor or something like that? 4. Are the extractor springs part of the tuning process? I have my first match shooting open on Sunday. And it is the state sectional to boot. I really need to get the gun running for the match. Thanks guys. kmca
Sounds like you've been introduced to an Aftec extractor. Edited October 3, 2012 by kmca
BrianATL
Order a pack of aftec springs and all will be fine. Yes, there should be two springs

If this is the first time you have removed an Aftec you might have trouble getting it back in after you replace the missing spring. One method that works for me is to use the firing pin kind of like a lever to get the cap started past the extractor tunnel in the slide. There are some good articles on the Brazos website about the Aftec and its care and feeding.
Aircooled6racer
Hello: Some run the Aftec with only one spring in either the front or rear position. You may want to give it a try with only one spring in the back to see if it works. If not try it in the front position and see if that works. I usually cut one coil off the front spring to make them work Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric
