My 9mm major open load

Just thought I would share my new 9mm major open load for anyone looking one. It runs really smooth and is pretty darn clean to shoot. The gun is a Predator Tactical Banshee. Brass is in really good shape after being fired and the primer looks the same as when fired with a minor load. I reloaded the same 10 pieces of brass 4 times and shot it. Still looks really nice. I could probably bump up a 1/2 gr of powder to get a better margin for error, but I am happy with 170.6 PF. With 6.35gr the case is not to full and it does not spill hardly any when rotating the shell plate on a 650.

6.35gr (average of 10 powder drops) Auto Comp

1.129 to 1.131 OAL

Starline Brass

Zero 125gr JHP

1345 low 1390 high 1365 average

PF 170.6

Bob, sounds great. You haven't had any trouble with feeding

at 1.13" OAL?

Most people seem to favor 1.145 - 1.17".

And then need more like 6.8 - 7.0 gr WAC.

I've been using 1.16" and 6.9 gr WAC.

You might be onto something here with the shorter

OAL and faster velocity with less powder???

I would like to know what pistol you are shooting in open with 9mm?

Just curious, not confrontational / judgemental.

Thanks

If that question was for me, I am shooting a Predator Tactical Banshee.

It is throated fairly short, so the most reliable for me is the .129 to .131 range. I tried loads from .120 up to .170 in .010 increments until I found the most reliable. I thought about having it throated deeper to get a longer OAL, but don't need to fix what ain't broke. I figure Matt has forgot more about building a gun than I will ever know. I have also read that most people like it longer and some think longer is safer. I based mine loosely on what DC Ammo is doing for 9mm major.
