j1b
Every six months or so my company sends us to an offsite location and kind of pulls the group together, gets us back in focus. It is almost always (and was this time) an exhausting, bust your ass, work night and day, learn a ton about your company and yourself experience. We are always fortunate to get incredible people to come speak to us. Examples would be Colin Powell, Norman Schwarzkopf, Bob Dole etc. etc. Influential people who've made a difference. We also have heard Coach K speak, Rick Patino, people like that who've done well making teams work like teams. Just got back yesterday from the latest and it was pretty awesome. We heard Coach Wooden speak. He was absolutely incredible. Particularly for a 93 year old man. His life lessons and ability to communicate clearly how we all know the right path was unmatched. His memory is simply astounding. He could quote stories and things he'd read verbatim, and the things his farther taught him and gave him are so deeply ingrained that I was simply inspired by the man. Later we heard from General Tommy Franks. Another man of extreme intelligence who's been out there, done it, and continues to kick butt. He's ethical, and that gives him the ability to make decisions during the toughest of times. Both men have books out now, I obviously have copies of both and will read them because I'm a reading nut. Hopefully their books are as incredible as the men. I'm only posting this so you all are aware they have books out, and while I haven't read either book I can tell you both men impressed me and I have to believe that if their books are at all like them and you enjoy reading I'd think both would be good books to have in the library.
