Cundiff5535
Hey gents, I have been able to workout a deal with an old college roommate of mine. He is the range officer for a police depo and for a few small favors he is dedicating their brass to my company. That is great but, its seriously disgusting... caked with clay/mud/etc... Since I really dont give a crap about getting dirty and trying to get it cleaned up, its no big deal. The problem is... how do I clean this stuff? I got through about a five gallon bucket of .45, one of 40, and 3 buckets of 223... I got them pretty clean.. soaked in water and dried out in the sun after washing them off. Anyone have a better way of getting all the crap off them? To add to that, now that they are actually cleaned off, I tumbled the stuff and the stuff is just not shinning... looks super dull and its basically driving me nuts. I know it doesn't matter how shinny the brass is but, I like my brass a certain way and I am not able to get it how I want it. Please give me some ideas on how to get this stuff looking correct! Thanks
natgas
Have you tried tumbling? try a tumbler with walnut shells and/or corn cob. Other than that, you can always try wet tumbling
Cundiff5535
Yes, I have tried both... Corn just makes it dusty.... Walnut did a better job but didn't really get the the way I am used to... Never heard of "wet tumbling"... What is that??
natgas
I haven't tried it but it uses a rock tumbler (or thumlers tumbler) and liquid along with steel pins to clean and shine. I'm sure a search for thumlers tumbler will get some results

Hi-Power Jack
Bobby, wonder if it might be easier, next time, if you got the brass in earlier - don't pick it up after a week or two - pick it up each day. May not require so much work, next time.

Cundiff5535
Jack, I don't really have a way to just go get it, I get a call and am told, cone pick up x amount of 5 gallon buckets... Other wise I would do that!

Brass may not look brand new, but it's probably very serviceable...
Bshooter
Try tumbling in rice first. You can get a 50# bag at Sam's for about $20. Tumble for a couple of hours then tumble with corn cob and polish. Throw the rice away when it gets too dirty.
