IrishPsych
I sold my carbine upper and now looking for a decent 18" for some 3 gun. To be honest, unless I get hooked and start crapping $$$ I probably wont shoot that many 3 gun but do plan on a couple. My lower is a spikes lower with an ACS stock. Would a complete Spikes 18" SPR Upper be too heavy? The barrel is 38oz. I suppose I could always have some weight taken out. I can get the upper for $725. Thoughts? IrishPsych
At least 8 weeks out anywhere for the stag 3g, I can't take that. The Barrel on this Spikes is 740 before the gas block and 850 after. I could have it lathed down if weight was an issue. Thanks for the info. I was reading how heavy or medium profile barrels may be too heavy. I got a reply from Lothar and the barrels are 740 before the gas block and 850 after. I could also have it lathed down to cut weight. I found a different upper with a DPMS 18" ss 1/8 barrel with rifle gas, yankee hill 5009 free float, flash hider, lo pro gas block. I like the idea of a rifle gas upper too. BCG and charging handle. I could always add a small rail to the button instead of having all the rails add weight and grabbing on everything. This one is only $625 minus $20 shipping. Edited September 25, 2012 by IrishPsych
MarkCO
The mid-length gas, weight and flash hider would be the three things steering me away from that upper. The LW barrels I have used have lost about 60fps as comapred to other 18" barrels.
