M&P 9mm

Fellow Forum Members - Need some help. I just field stripped an M&P, cleaned it, used slide glide on the rails and oiled the trigger and moveable components with Break Free and then reassembled it. Everything appears to have been pretty smooth and easy. Only 6 parts to handle and it is a well made pistol.

Prior to this first take down everything worked fine. The take down lever worked and it stayed in the down position as it was designed to do allowing ample time to remove the slide from the frame.

Now, only after this first take down where the gun was cleaned, where the rails were lubed with Slide Glide and all the moving components were oiled with Break Free LP am I having this problem with the take down lever on this brand new never fired M&P pistol. The take down lever will not stay in the lowered position for removal of the slide from the frame. This has occurred only since cleaning, lubing and oiling the pistol. Again - Prior to this first take down all worked as it should and everything was ok.

But now after I put it back together the take down lever will not stay in the lower position where it will allow the slide to be removed from the frame. It moves back up before I get my hand to the slide and remove it from the frame. The best words to describe the action is the "take down lever springs back up" to the normal operate and fire position and will not stay in the lowered position at all. Now I have to actually hold the take down lever in the lower position while removing the slide from the frame. It did not function like this prior to my 1st take down so It has to be something I did.

Have any M&P owners ever seen this problem and can you please advise what I can do to correct this?

PS-I did use the little tool to set the inside wire to the correct spot for take down inside where the magazine goes.

All my M&P's have done this. I take it down this way: Lock the slide back manually, then pull the wire down. Holding the gun in your right hand, rotate the takedown lever down. Hold the lever in the down position with your right thumb, pull the slide back with your left hand to release the slide stop, then ease it off.
