Art Yeo
Hi guys, RE: RL 550B Recall that there's a pretty large shellplate bolt that goes through the Ninja-star looking Index Sprocket and the Shellplate? Well, when I start loading and rotating the sprocket, somehow after every few turns, this bolt would self tighten and will lock up the entire sprocket. I tried spraying silicone dry lube underneath the shellplate before installing the bolt and the issue still persists. So, my current temp solution is to slightly unscrew the bolt a little after every few turns. This gets old really fast. Any idea how to fix this issue? Thanks! Jonathan Taliani
I'm not sure about the 550, but on the XL650 there is a set screw in the left side of the mainshaft to prevent this from happening.
Jonathan Taliani
Check out page 8-9: RL 550 Manual. The picture on the bottom right of page 8 illustrates the part. The first paragraph on page 9 addresses exactly this issue.
Art Yeo
Yup, you're right. Totally forgotten about that little screw on the main shaft. Thanks!
