olp73
Hi I have to rebarrel and all I can get my hands on are a midlenght gas 16" H-bar (under the handguard)barrel made by Bushmaster. My old barrel was a SS 17" rifle gas 0.750 under the handguard. I felt the old barrel was a little heavy and I am now wondering how the Bushmaster is going to compare weight wise? Sleepswithdogs
What was the wt of your old barrel? I believe the H bar is a heavy contour barrel. Have been reading a few people taking heavy barrel contours and having them turned down to lighten them, this could be another possibility for you. You might also check with Benny Hill and see what he has. Have heard very good things about his barrels, and a couple of people actually say nice things about him too. In my poor opinion, JP is making perhaps the best 3gun barrels on the market today. He has a light contour that you might find interesting. If you get a JP, you might also consider getting a pre-head spaced bolt with it to make sure you don't run into any head space issues, he makes some very good ones. Also, a DPMS Mark 12 can be had quite reasonably, check Brownells. I have heard nothing but good about this barrel, it too could be turned down to loose some weight if you wanted to go that way. I'm not seeing any stats on the Bushmaster barrel weight separately, only on the rifle as a whole and twist, etc. I'm not sure how tuff it is for you to get rifle parts shipped over from the States, but if there is any help I can give you in getting a new barrel don't hesitate to drop me a PM.
