Titegroup and my front sight FO melted?

After I got back from the range I noticed that my Dawson front sight FO had retracted some in the sight channel on my Glock 35. My load was 4.6gr Titgroup under a MG 180 CMJ loaded at 1.135OAL and a CCI 500 primer. My other load was 4.6gr N320, Xtreme 180 plated HP. Winchester once fired brass for both loads and fired through a KKM barrel. The TG load chronos out at956 and the N320 load is one I am working up. All cases and primers look good.

Is the FO melting common with either powder? I only shot about 150rds.

Titegroup is known to burn pretty hot, but I wouldn't necessarily point to that as being the cause. I've run a lot of TG and haven't had a higher breakage rate than with other powders. FO rods are not very hard to break or melt. I had one come loose on a particularly warm sunny day while sitting on the bench in direct sun.

I normally shoot lead and use WST in my Limited gun. In the winter the indoor range only allows jacketed. One winter I used Titegroup instead and went through a few FO rods in just 3 months. I think I've only broke 3 or 4 rods in 6 years other than that winter.

Just to clarify the FO has not broken, just contracted in the channel in the sight. Where it was protruding slightly from the front of the sight housing it is now contracted back a bit. The rod is not broken or loose. This is why I was considering heat related shrinkage or erosion.

Sounds like it was not properly attached(melted)or loose in the front portion of the sight to begin with. Did you put the gun away warm in a foam type case? That happened to me after a match in extremely hot weather. Between the weather and the shooting, when I put the gun in it's case warm, the foam crushed against the FO and broke it.

It was tight in the sight base and installed per the Dawson directions. Had been doing just fine for about 4 months. Indoor range, temp 83 degrees and I use the Midway nylon pouches to hold my guns in the range bag, usually leaving the zipper open after a range session to allow heat to better dissipate.

When I installed the FO I melted it in the ends per Dawson instructions and had a small bit of melted FO extended on the muzzle side of the sight channel. Everything was tight and the FO is still tight in the channel but the muzzle end has melted or retracted back inside the front of the channel. My estimate is that before the range session there was .03 of FO extended beyond the sight channel and now it is roughly .04" inside the channel. The rod is still intact, still tight and is still usable but not quite as bright.

Really just trying to figure out if it would have been the TG load or the N320 load that could have caused the melting and if so are there any preventative measures. My load is pretty set for GA State next week (4.7 TG, MG 180 CMJ, 1.135 OAL, CCI SPP) as while I have some Zero's coming I have no time to chrono before the match. Easy enough to take one of my cigar lighters and a spare FO rod with me to the match (I was planning to anyway) and just change it out if needed.

I run the same gun and load for USPSA Limited/Limited 10 without issue. I also run 3.6gr/TG for ESP.

My gun has a HiViz front sight that overhangs the slide cutout, and no sign of any issues.
