colbyjack
I just got my replacement bomar type sight. When i put the new elevation screw in it just stopped. So i looked at the old bomar screw. And the screw threads are all boogered up. I put the sight in using the old bomar screw. But im wondering if i should buy a 6-48 tap and chase it. Or just use the old screw because it fits. I just dont want it to pull out. I guess i could tape the threads or put a sliver of foil in there to makr it tighter.... What should i do tap and use new screw? Or use old screw that has boogered threads but it holds for now.......
Pat Miles
Why in heavens name would you not do it right the first time? Spend a few bucks and buy the tap. Pat

Pat Truer words of wisdom have never been spoken. If you are concerned about it loosening afterwards, use some loctite.
colbyjack
If i loctite that elevation screw will i still be able to adjust it or will it be a pain in the rear? The reason i asked.... i didnt build the slide and im worried it may be 6-32to not the 6-48original and then my screw for elivation wont work. Pat Miles
If you can find a portion of the old screw that has relatively clean threads put the two screws together and see if the threads mesh. This will give you an idea if the threads are the same TPI. Does the old sight have a name on it. If so you might be able to determine the screw TPI with that info. I wouldn't suggest using LocTite on this screw. Most sights have click detents on the elevation screw to keep it from rotating one way or the other.
