nelly
Hi all, I have been shooting Open Division IPSC in Florida since 1992 & have never shot any matches out of the state.I was thinking about how the stages are set up in the State of California for IPSC competition as the State Magazine limit is 10 round. I can't imagine shooting a high cap race gun with only 10 rds per mag. Does the State law on Magazine capacity carry over to IPSC ?? or are the stages designed ten round friendly like IDPA...Wouldn't make sense to own & shoot an Open Race gun with 10 round mag restrictions.Any help to understand how California shooters shoot High Cap race guns at IPSC would be appreciated.Thanks.Nelly.....
Torogi
Well, Open and limited divisions are well alive here in CA. Now, if we go into details as to how come we can shoot those divisiosn and we have the 10-rd division, discussion will be lengthy. Bottom line, if you acquired mag prior to 2000, you're good. If you are coming over here and have to shoot that division, PM me also. If you want to discuss it further, visit www.calguns.net. Tons of info there. HI5-O
We do Open-10 here in paradise all the time, got no choice We can at least buy the mag (in) parts no problem and just have to modify it to hold no more than 10 (pistol mags only). Gets interesting when the stages have all close and full targets so those times the dot may be a disadvantage (imagine that). As for the stages, most are designed to be single stack major friendly anyway so there a lots of places to reload.
lumpygravy
I believe that our good neighbors to the North (Canada) are also restricted to 10 round magazines and shoot Open with that restriction. I've found Calguns is a good info resource for this topic and there are a few threads in the Travel sub-fo that touch on it as well.
nelly
We're fortunate down here in FL, I don't know any other way. It's really nice to be able to load up a G17 mag with a +5 Arredondo extended base & work my way thru a 32 rd stage with only 1 reload.I once shot an IDPA match with my G19 and was told to only load 10 rds in each mag..OK so I did that ,then I was told that each stage will not exceed 18 rds OK to that also, but when I got going I had to be extrordinarily cautious as to not put a TOE over a doorway threshhold or I would be penalized, also if I dropped a mag on the ground I would be penalized for that also,I had to do a reload with my fingers spread apart in an unnatural position to accomodate holding a fat G19 Mag while sliding a fresh mag up the well. All the while going thru those 10 rd Mags really quick.Too much stuff going on for my likes so I never went back & gladly returned to IPSC Open.In most areas of the country we are truly blessed to be able to compete fully without those restrictions.I hope someday saner heads prevail & understand how some sports function...Nelly
Torogi
I hope someday saner heads prevail & understand how some sports function...<- This. Or just in general, saner heads prevail. Production div is where I play at. I've shot open and lim, but I find that a good planned stage and a 10 rounder, is very competitive. Minor scoring evens out with lower PF= less recoil, no reason not to get all alphas
nelly
Sounds good, I am thinking about shooting my G19 in production class one week, we have 3 nice stages set up every week.I don't even mind the 10 rd deal per mag as long as it's a USPSA match & not IDPA. At our weekly match we have an average attendance of 65 shooters & there are only about 12 of us Open Guys the rest are mostly production & limited.
