asontag
Just got a new m&p pro 9, and when I was doing the initial take down for cleaning, the sear deactivation lever fell out. I'm new to the m&p, but from a quick search on this forum it looks like the part isn't necessary for safe/reliable operation. Should I worry that it just fell out, or is there a downside to not putting it back in?
Skydiver
If you are planning on shooting the gun in USPSA production, I think the part must be present if it came with the gun... e.g. All factory safety mechanisms must remain functional. I think the same is true for all IDPA divisions.
mcracco
The assembly consists of the lever, a spring, and a pin. The only way I can see the lever falling out is if the pin disappeared (doubt it) or a chunk of the sear block was missing. If it were my gun I would be pulling the sear block out to find out what the heck is going on. Or, certainly Smith will take it back to do the same. asontag
Thanks, that's what I needed to know. Didn't think it should be able to fall out without something else being an issue.
sperman
I took them out of my guns when I shot an M&P. They aren't a safety mechanism, just a way to release the sear so you can get the slide off, without pulling the trigger. Like mcracco said, if it fell out on its own, the pin is missing.
