818-DVC
thanks to all who can help me with this one. Is there enough meat on a Brazos thundercomp2 above the ports to tri top one? I don't have one in front of me to spec.
hvsmith
If you mean something like this, here is a top view of my Brazos thundercomp2.

Brazos Custom
The comp as manufactured has fairly thick edges at the top outside edge of the ports. This is because of the bevel I cut on the outside edge of the port and the fact that the side walls are alittle thicker than most comps (for strength). Cracks most commonly appear in comps because this area (outside edge of the port) has been thinned to a knife edge during install and blending and small cracks can form which then propagate. When you tri top the comp you create a thinned area at the outer edge of the port. This is especially true if you thin the sides of the comp as well. I am sure there are many people doing it and not having a problem but I personally like failure rates approaching zero.
818-DVC
thank you for clarifying, Bob. And to all who participated. Anyone running minor though this comp? Whats your take on it? I'm building a minor 9 steel gun, and was offered a TC2 for a very good price. should I just get a 2-3 port comp and be done with it for 9 minor? thanks, JL

I have two open guns with PROsx comps and have had several other open guns with the same comp, I think the comps are great, but not so great for minor. OperationHitFactor
A good steel shooting comp would be the millenium/scheumann 3 chamber titanium comp or the bedell titanium comp. If the comp is made of steel a cone config would be ideal. Then cut a chamber or two off using only one or two chambers of the original comp. If you use a fast powder like N320 it doesn't create a lot of gas, so it doesn't require a big comp. The idea is to create a lighter, yet soft shooting gun for rapid transitions. 818-DVC
the gun is for SCSA static steel matches. falling steel sounds fun too. Think I might go with a 1/32 twist barrel and lop of chamber by chamber on a bedell ti comp til I find the sweet spot. Figure I might just make it a 5 port for now, and keep with a severely lightened 5" for just in case I like the setup enough to run major USPSA with it. Thanks so much for everyone's input. Really shed some light on the subject. JL

With minor changes, you will be able to jump between platforms. Literally, the most bang for your buck.
