Help for new range/club start-up

Hello guys. I am trying to do something I have wanted to do for a long time, start a new range/club for my area. I found 50acres for sale that will be the range. What i need to know is is there any financial help, help with starting new range, ins.,any programs and just general advice. I need all the advice I can get so please help.

The NRA has a range development program along with grants for land and improvement. I'd call them first. NSSF has grants for targets and other items. You should also contact your state Department of Wildlife/Natural Resources and see if they have any grant money as well. A little more risky, contact the State Patrol/County Sheriff and see if they have any interest in a range they could use for training that would also allow public access. I know of four ranges that went this way and three ended up being successful, the other got taken over by the city and the public was ousted, but the grant monies form the shooting sports orgs was returned.

GMG, I know of one range that was operational for two years,

doing a great (innovative) job with USPSA type matches, and

got closed down because the range was too close to a highway

(you could easily see the vehicles passing as you were

shooting).
