HazB_Shootin
I'm concerned over some 9 Major rounds I made last night and want to see what the concensus is to see if these are safe to even test fire or not... The load is: 121gr Hornady HAP (Hollow Point/CMJ) 7.2gr Longshot 1.095 OAL CCI 400 SRP My big concern is the OAL, I have tested this same load with FMJ round nose at 1.160 OAL and had no issues. I have to load the HAP rounds to 1.095 or they will not chamber/cycle properly in my gun (Tanfo Match Upper/Limited Frame). The shoulder on the HAP round vs round nose is quite a bit wider and of course the HP bullet is shorter in length. The important part (I believe) is how far the bullet is seated and not so my the OAL - from what I can tell of my carefull observations was the HAP and round nose seating depth looks about equal. All of the data I see for 9Major is => 1.145 OAL so I would like to know if anyone has loaded to 9Major this short and if so their thoughts. But primarily, does this sound like a dangerous round? If so I have no issue pulling every one of these apart and using the rounds for minor loads. I've heard good reports on accuracy from this bullet, and I can get them in bulk at a reasonable price - but all that doesn't mean a thing if the load is dangerous... Torogi
1.095" OAL is very short. and that is one hella compressed load. OAL plays a big role too in pressure I believe. I load 1.100 in production, half of the amount of powder you are using. Maybe just use a different bullet? or maybe ream the barrel? I load 1.169" OAL, KKM barrel on STI slide. Around 7.5gr Longshot. Thanks Put those rounds in the "Pull the bullets" bin. Don't shoot em. Longshot is a powder that can build very high pressure very quickly. When your head says "I'm concerned" LISTEN! Desmo412
I load to 1.165" with both MG 124 CMJs and MG 115 JHPs. I had to ream my barrel to take the JHPs at that length. I would load longer, but that is about all you can fit in an STI mag with spacers. I would back your load off a few tenths and run them over the chrono and look for pressure signs. Personally, I would just ream the barrel. Either have a gunsmith do it or call Manson Reamers and buy a throating reamer. The tool was only $
Hi-Power Jack
Haz, sounds like it definitely has the potential of being a grenade It's possible that you might get away with it, but I wouldn't try it in my gun, or with my hand.

In my limited testing Longshot gets a bit funky as pressures come up. If that little voice in your head isn't happy, take heed.
HazB_Shootin
Thanks for all the replies, that 'warning, warning danger' voice definetly sounded off in my head and that's why I wanted to ask prior to firing even one round. This sounds way to risky - I'm pulling all of them and going to find a CMJ round nose that I know I can load longer/safer. Thanks Again
