930 turkey for 3 gun?

I'm thinking about competing in 3 gun. The matches held in my area use the Soldier of Fortune rules. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a shotgun. Do you guy think this would be ok for 3 gun? If i bought it I will add a +4 mag tube.

Just show up with what you have and try it first. If you have a real longing look in your eye, someone will surely let you try out their shotgun. Converting a 930 will end up cositng more than just buying a 930JM that is pretty close out of the box.

I just wince anytime someone wants to spend any money with not having been to a match yet.

While you can go to a USPSA pistol match and see maybe 3 or 4 gun types, led by the S_Is, in 3Gun, the equipment make-ups are much more varied. There are personal, regional and physical differences in 3 gun that get amplified more than in the pistol sports.

Hello Archer , like Mark said the 930 turkey will cost you about what it takes to buy a 930 JM

IIRC the turkey model is ported and unless you want to shoot Open , you will have to have your barrel cut. I have a buddy that went the same route , because he couldn't find a JM.

Only advice is to get a +5 so you can run 8+1 shells. Good luck

Hi Sthrngnr , I see that you are in Port St. Lucie. Are there any 3 gun matches near you? I live in Jupiter and I'm planning to shoot in the matches held in Okeechobee.

Yes okeechobee has SOF 3G matches, and I shoot at Port Malabar which has uspsa 3G. Both are fun, but I prefer uspsa than SOF. Most of the guys that shoot at okeechobee are from wpb area as well. Good luck

I use a cutdown 930 waterfowl and it works very well for me. I did all the work before the JM mossbergs came out and it cost me around 600 for everything(extension, clamp, barrel cut/thread and gun) I also went ahead and had the lifter welded and dremeled out the loading port myself. I too would advise a +5 over the +4. I would post pics but my post count is too low. IM me if you want them

I have a 24" turkey I built up before the JM hit the market. I waited as long as I could and eventually bought a 24" turkey model. I have about the same amount of money in it as I would buying a 930JM.

No need to cut the barrel, I added a Nordic clamp and some sheet metal covers to cover the ports and make me legal for Tac, it works well. I have shot one major event and my gun was inspected by the RM, he didnt have a problem with the covered ports as they give no advantage when covered.
