digby7
so I know this is a old topic rehashed but the responses in all the past threads have been "take a file to your SVI tubes". I have 6 140mm 9mm new style svi tubes that work very well with my 9mm svi metal grip limited gun. I also happen to have a sti steel master that I want these to work with and need a option to make them work together other than filing on 6 tubes. I asked limcat for one of their grips that would work with svi mags - he sent me a stock grip and told me to just get a dawson posilock mag release. anyone know what i need to do to make this combo work OTHER than filing on tubes? Can I file on the release enough to make them work reliably? I'd rather do that than file on several tubes but want to know if it will work before hand. thanks in advance. Torogi
Alex, dude, you have to dremel it I have a Dawson posilock. Show up on Sunday, ill bring it. Try that before you do anything else.
digby7
dremel the posilock or dremel the tubes? I'll dremel the S**** out of the posilock to avoid touching the tubes - if it will work.
Torogi
Well, here is my set up; Limcat grip Regular STI d/t mag release For a stamped SVI tube, i have to shift the mag catch hole higher. Just enough for the mag catch to uhmm... catch? The hole. Anything extra (higher) you get the risk of hitting the ejector. If Johnny said posilock will fit fine with the new SVI then good. The hole now is just bigger on my new SVI mags, don't bother me. Do you have a posilock already?
digby7
yep, have a posilock already
Torogi
I'd say leave the posilock alone. Dremel the tube. What have you done so far? How is it fitting?
Dan Sierpina
The inside of the SV frame is slightly wider than the STI. Open up the inside of the frame, and no modification to the tube is necessary. The new SV tubes fit old SV frames which used the same grip as the STI. digby7
so if i dremel the tube to make the catch higher - it implies that when i try to go use it again in my sv with metal grip the mag will sit lower and possibly affect feeding. I'd like to avoid that. So far i have done absolutely nothing yet other than put a limcat grip on a sti steelmaster, add the dawson posilock and play around with mags. Dan - open up the inside of the frame as in the receiver itself? I'll take some calipers to the svi and sti frames to see how much diff there is. There's a step on the inside of the frame. The new mags are wider in the front than the old ones, use a sharpie to show the contact point.
digby7
so took some pictures and measurements. the svi frame is about .02 wider but the mag does not seem to bind in the sti frame. took the slide off and observed where the mag sits in relation to the ejector with both svi and sti mags i lowered the shelf on the mag release by a bit and now it behaves much more closely to the sti mags. previously the svi mag sat up so high that the slide would have trouble closing. will have to test it in live fire to make sure its all good but i'm feeling alot better about it now. digby7
200 rounds of live fire and we're ready to rock! lowered mag shelf did the trick - test fired with 2 new style SVI tubes and did not have a single mag related issue - and they drop free!
