Since Sp01 shadow is not Cali legal, I will be buying the basic Sp01. Any do it yourself recommended mods, trigger jobs? Gun will be used for uspsa production and occasional idpa. Any of you had problems with regular night sites that came with it? Thanks

Call CZ Custom and ask, but I think to do it legally in California you have to buy the old SP-01, then update it with a Shadow upper. This way, the "firearm" has a non-shadow serial number. Again, confirm with CZ Custom. They've dealt with this before.

Otherwise, I hate the night sights, they cover too much of a target. I recommend any thin front sight you like (CZ fiber front or Dawson blank front) with the CZ tactical rear sight. Then change the recoil spring to 11 lb, the hammer spring to 13 lb, and get the steel drop-free mag brake. Then add any grips you want. That covers the basics.

Thank you. Just ordered the regular Sp01. Been trying to like the tupperware stuff for years and I think I shoot okay but after trying one of the shooters sp01 I lost sleep over it. I am loooking for parts and checking the forum for other suggested parts such as hammer, trigger job. I'm probably better off letting a local gunsmith do the trigger but I also saw a do it yourself trigger job here.

Go to the CalGuns forums and look up SSE (Single Shot Exemption) and you can get your shadow. It'll cost more than the SP-01, but less than an SP-01 plus the Shadow upper together (which are out of stock anyway).

Also the competitions hammer or Cajun Gun Works hammers are highly recommended. The CZ hammers cam a bit when you pull the trigger, the comp and CGW hammers have different teeth that catch the sear differently and will give you an extra crisp break without the cam. This should be your first "mod" IMHO. Actually go to CGW and check out his packages, you'll get a super sweet SP-01 with less than $200. YOu don't need the Shadow, it's advantage is that it has no firing pin block so you can shoot production without the FPB.
