Case filling 45acp powder

Been out of the 45 acp business for about 15 years now. Just picked up a sweet Kimber Eclipse Pro. Looking for a powder that fills at least half the case

or more, so there will be less chance of the dreaded double charge (like bullseye) Call me chicken, but you know murphys law. We're good friends. ha

Will be using 200-230gr fmj, jhp. Occ match shooting, mostly paper punching for fun.

Thanks for your help.

Have some solo 1000 on hand,, 5.0 fills the case about half. Tried 10 test loads, full function with the kimber, also have some ww231 with same results,, horn 230 xtp.

Now my stinkin dillon dterminator scale is dying, so no more loading until I find another scale. Not a dillon.

Thanks for the info.

If you want full-power loads, Unique.

If you want target loads, Red Dot (Bullseye isn't that fluffy).

If you want to fill the case, Trail Boss.

However, the .45 is VERY insensitive to fill density and, for me, does its best work with 231/HP38 and AA2.

Solo 1000 has shown some promise, but not as consistently accurate in my .45s as 231/HP38 OR AA2.

Clays is pretty fluffy, but stay at low loadings--don't even think about approaching max loads.

Other fairly fluffy powders that work well in the .45Auto are AA Nitro 100, Am. Select, and 700X.

The main thing is to ALWAYS inspect the powder height in the case before seating a bullet (or use an RCBS Lock-Out die on a progressive). Also, never stop without clearing the shellplate or finishing whatever batch of cases you are working on and never ever EVER short-stroke a progressive press. This solves the double charge problem.

If there is a problem, ALWAYS clear the shellplate before investigating what the problem is.
