WarBoyz
Ok Guys... I know you guys probably get sick of this gun verses that gun, but I am really needing to pull the trigger on one of these guns before I loose the opportunity. I have read as many posts on here as I can and it seems that everyone that is shooting the Versamax is liking it, but being that I have not been a member here long then I do not know their back ground on what they were shooting prior! As for both Benellis is there a concern with the barrel length? Also I have had a chance to shoot the Versamax and a 21" Benelli and honestly I like Both. The Remington is wider in the in the fore grip but seemed to have less recoil. So financially, I can get the Versamax Tactical and the 24" M2 Field for relatively the same price. M2 Field is $50.00 more... The 26" American is 300 less, but honestly I know nothing about the American model. Plus I am a little worried about the 26" barrel length. I swear I have ran pros and cons in my head till it hurts! I appreciate any input, and again sorry for another comparison thread!!
Alaskapopo
Skip the american get the field model. The 26 inch length is not that much of an issue with as light as the M2 is and you will be much better off with the comfortec stock and vent rib barrel. StealthyBlagga
The VM Tactical is THE gun to have IMHO. I don't think I am exaggerating when I say it is going to marginalize the spaghetti guns in 3-Gun.
orangeman711
I went from Remington to an M2 three years ago and I've never looked back. Love the M2, just runs and runs, and works with all ammo from reloads to Wally World 100rd. sleeves. Good luck.
MickB
With the VM Tactical, you are pretty much ready to go out of the box. Basically weld (C-rums) or dehorn the lifter and you are pretty much ready to shoot. With the M2, you will have to buy the mag tube, clamp, etc... The Versa Max also seems to shoot softer than the M2. Mick Edited August 3, 2012 by MickB
michael1778
The VM Tactical is almost race ready, from what I know. That tips the initial capital cost even more in favor of that shotgun versus the M2. I have greatly enjoyed by longer Versa Max 26". I've been toying with the idea of shooting Tac Optics other more limited equipment division once in a while for a change of pace. I'd get a VM Tactical in a heartbeat. Benellis are excellent from what I have seen in matches and read, but I think Remington put together a real winner. I shot it at a side match in June, nice. But, to be clear, I have not shot any type of M2 myself. Only Benelli experience is my nice SuperNova pump. Dan Sierpina
I've been shooting a 21" M2 for several years and it's extremely reliable. I did just pick up a Versa Max for my wife. It isn't ready to go out of the box, but needs the same mods as the M2 did. Opening up the loading port, and smoothing it out, a welded lifter is good, and relieving the foreend is needed where the M2 doesn't. It will give the M2 a run for it's money, since it's so much like a Benelli.

I honestly didn't feel the little bit of added recoil was worth the $400 for the comfortech stock. What did guys do went they shot a M1?I started with a M2 tactical that I paid $1200 (doesn't have comfortech stock). Figured out quick it wasn't the best gun for 3 gun. I now have a M2 American and it runs on the cheap walmart stuff. The total cost of adding the mods that are needed (welded lifter, extension, etc) cost around a $1k. Although the VM tactical seems like the way to go as far as out of the box . Good luck Jp
WarBoyz
Thanks everyone for ALL of your advice! So here is what I have done, I called my local Dealer and purchased the Versamax Tactical, But since I found such a good deal on the American(850 shipped)and since it was the last one he had, I purchased it as well. It is a 26" and I plan on running the +7 or +8. I am sure I will have more questions such as how to set them both up. I will post up pictures after I get them both! Thanks again for all the input, this forum rocks!
45shooter
Versa max. All you have to do is weld up lifter and open loading port. You can ghost load it out of the box. Plus the large loading port for 3.5 inch shells makes it easy to load the load two way. Plus made in America.

LSnSC
Whats wrong with the American??? It has a vent rib, right? Were not shooting 3 1/2 turkey loads, is the comfortech really necessary? Edited August 6, 2012 by LSnSC
benny hill
The V.M. tactical needs the same mods as the M2 as the mag ext. is to short and needs replaced anyway. You can drive stock type shotguns or race with a corvette built one.

Nothing is wrong with the American. It's the exact same shotgun just sans the comfortech stock. Yes it has a vent rib. No the comfortech isn't necessary. The recoil difference is very slight, and sometimes not noticed at all. Oh, and you save $3-400 in the process, aka, money that could be put towards a Nordic tube, Hi-viz sight etc..
