Hi All,

I have been hunting for an optic for my 18" AR, and been examining the new options available. I was interested in a higher power optic than the typical 1-4, and both the new new Sightron 1-7x24 and Leupold VX6 1-6 were up near the top of my list. Good features/quality, but not $1K+ (out of the budget!) I contacted both of them. Thought this may be useful for some folks.

See below:

Q:Hi, I had a few questions regarding the new VX-6 1-6x24 riflescopes

you have available. 1. Are they going to be available with a some

type of a ranging reticle? If not, would an alternative reticle be

available via the Custom Shop for an additional fee? 2. Regarding the

illumination, is it designed to be daytime-visible? 3. What is the

projected battery life of the system when run near at full

illumination settings?

A: 1. No ranging reticles at this time or in the near future.

2. Yes. Daylight visible.

3. 22 hours at max intensity.

Note that the Leupold rep who answered this did not seem aware of the SPR reticle version.

Q:Hi, are there any plans to offer the SIII 1-7x scope with some type of ranging reticle? Perhaps something similar to your LRIR-MOA reticle offered in other SIII scopes? If not, would it be possible to get a different reticle fitted for a fee? Thanks for your help.

A: We will be introducing for 2013 a SIII1-7x24IRMOA. This will be the MOA

reticle. Due to the internal design we won't be able to change out the

reticle.

I personally think that if the Sightron gets a decent reticle, it might be a pretty kick-butt optic for the $$$. Not sure if I can wait until 2013... might get an MTAC or XTR in the meantime.

Well, unless I'm mistaken, the Leupold SPR reticle is considered a ranging reticle and it is offered by the custom shop and at DS Arms. This model is called the VX-6 Multigun scope. Most guys at the Leupold custom shop are unaware of it so you have to ask around to make sure you talk to the right person.

Yes, I can attest the dot is visible in bright sunlight but not as bright as the Swaro.

The nice thing about the dot is that once you the rifle stops moving for 5 minutes, it shuts off. It works very well and I tested it on several occasions going from off to moving the rifle. It does turn back on very quickly once you pick it up or move it a bit.
