Open Tube Gun Red Dot Mounts

What are the options for mounting a Red Dot to a Rem 1100? Originally, the gun had one of the mounts that uses the receiver pins with a 30mm Tube Red Dot, but the Speed Chute messes that up. I know Arrendondo has a Doctor/JPoint mount and the Burris Speed Bead. But are there any other options? I have a spare C-More I would like to mount, but don't see any way to do so other than drill and tap the top of the receiver.

When I shot open I used a universal rib mount like the one below and mounted a Holo-sight on the barrel. I didn't like feeling jammed up behind a receiver mounted scope with the shotgun. With a C-More you could just drill and tap the rib and mount it directly.

Here is a picture of my 1187 that I have had for about 15 years. It has undergone several optic changes over the years. I did have a rib mounted rail on this for awhile, but it added a lot of weight to the gun. I added the Arredondo rib mount about 6 years ago, and really like it. I have mounted it a little further forward than Arredondo does, but this is because I will grab the area between the optic and the receiver to load it with the tecloaders. I currently have a C-More STS mounted. I also really like the Burris SpeedBead. A friend of mine has it on his Benelli. The only thing I wonder about is if the zero changes when he take the barrel off for cleaning. This picture was taken when I was testing a Polychoke, which I ended up liking, and keeping on the gun. I hope this helps...Z

I went with the Burris SpeedBead and it has not held up for me. Lost its zero significantly in the middle of the Nordic Component Tactical in St Cloud.

I have seen shotguns with the optic melted into the barrel. Where they cut the rib and mount the optic to the barrel so that the sight is as low as possible. Anyone know how that's done? Pro's and Con's of doing it that way?
