forddriver
After about 10 matches and about 10 months shooting USPSA limited 10 with a USP, I finally decided it was time to upgrade guns to a more competition friendly platform. I still love my HK's but they are very lacking in the aftermarket parts world, not to mention if you can find stuff it is very expensive. So I finally decided after scouring this forum and based on the reputation of both STI and Dawson Precision I decided to go with a STI Spartan with the competition package from Dawson Precision. (Should get to the transfer store late next week!) Now the fun part, I need advice on mags. I plan on continuing shooting in limited 10 and maybe some in Single Stack so I was looking at the: Chip McCormick 1911 45 ACP 10 Round Stainless Steel Power Magazine Would it be Single Stack legal to change the base plate on these or would I need a whole new set of mags? I am hoping someone has experience with them and if they are crap what would y'all recommend? Thanks in advanced for the advice!
CB45
You will need a set of 8rd mags to compete in SS. The 10 rd mags dont decrease in size when you take the base pad off. Goodluck!
polizei1
Yes, being major you are required to use 8rds mags only. You can switch out the basepads, I would recommend using the Dawson Precision magazines, as mine have been flawless. Another great suggestion is Tripp. If you're getting the Spartan with the Dawson no-gap magwell, you'll need the special basepads. I'm using a Spartan with the Dawson mags and no-gap magwell and it's an awesome setup. Good luck! Edited July 27, 2012 by polizei1
Braxton1
For 10-rounders, I personally prefer the Wilson 47Ts. For 8s, I usually use the 47Ds, but have had success with the 8-round PowerMags. The issue with the 10-rounders is the overall length of the gun. It won't fit "the box" with a 10-rounder installed.
Mike21STI
I've had good luck with the Wilson mags in my 45, my 9mm not so much
Paul-the new guy
I thought the box was for production? I use trip and have used Wilson and night hawk and STI with .45 they all seem to run
dskinsler83
The box is for production and SS as well is a scale

pjb45
Just to be a bit more precise, the magazine can only have 8 rounds in it before the Ready. I have had Tripp mags that easily hold nine rounds and fit in the box. There are two separate rules in play in this discussion as mentioned: the gun/mag must fit in the box and number of rounds in the magazine at the start of the course of fire. If you want to shot minor and the gun/mag fit in the box you can have more than 8 rounds and less than 11.
twodownzero
I love my Tripps. Used CMCs for years, but I'm much happier with these.
MattYvip
I've been using Wilson ETMs for Single Stack a long time. I haven't had a single malfunction. For L-10 I'd probably go with the CMC. Congrats on the new set up by the way.
Anopsis
Just to be a bit more precise, the magazine can only have 8 rounds in it before the Ready. I'm not sure I understand what you mean, because this sounds backwards. What capacity the mags are loaded to BEFORE the start signal doesn't matter; it's how many rounds are in that mag after the beep. Ex: if you're shooting Major in SS with .40 you can Barney with the same mag. Load 9, chamber, now you have 8+1 at start which is legal.
